Seminar on Animal Welfare and Public Policy Held at Civil Services Academy Lahore

A seminar and panel discussion on Animal Welfare and Public Policy titled “Public Policy Practitioners as Stewards of the Voiceless” was organized by the Animal Welfare Society at the Civil Services Academy Lahore. Representing Snam Pharma and the veterinary community, Lt. Col. (R) Dr. Hammad Ahmad Hashmi participated as a distinguished expert. The event was also attended by Professor Dr. Masood Rabbani, Vice Chancellor of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), Lahore, along with other experts.

Discussion on Animal Welfare and Public Policy

The seminar focused on the welfare of stray, companion, and livestock animals in Pakistan. Participants held detailed discussions on public policy, ethical responsibility, and the promotion of compassion toward animals.

Animal Welfare Seminar at Civil Services Academy

The primary objective of the seminar was to educate probationary officers at the Civil Services Academy about the importance of promoting public policies based on animal welfare, scientific evidence, and humanitarian values throughout their professional careers. The speakers emphasized that such policies are essential for ensuring the effective protection of the rights of voiceless animals.

Animal Welfare Requires a Multi-Sectoral Approach

The experts highlighted that animal welfare is not limited to the veterinary profession. Instead, it requires effective public policy, legislation, institutional collaboration, and greater public awareness.

They further stressed that science-based policies contribute not only to animal welfare but also play a significant role in improving public health, food security, and sustainable development.

Director General Farhan Aziz Khawaja spoke about the responsibilities of civil servants in promoting animal welfare. He thanked all the speakers and participants for their valuable contributions to the seminar.
