International Day of Rural Women
International Day of Rural Women is observed every year on 15 October to highlight the role, services and participation of women living in rural areas in economic development. In an agricultural country like Pakistan, rural women play an important role in agriculture, livestock, poultry, dairy farming and the household economy. However, their hard work and services often do not receive proper recognition and facilities.
Role of Women in Rural Economy
Rural women in Pakistan are involved in the production of eggs, milk and other agricultural products at the household level, along with taking care of chickens, goats, sheep and other livestock. These activities not only meet the nutritional needs of their families but also become a source of additional income. If these women are provided with modern training, easy loans, better marketing facilities and government support, they can play a more effective role in the country’s economy.
Efforts for Rural Women
Government of Pakistan has made efforts to make rural women economically independent through various projects. Poultry units, distribution of indigenous chickens, livestock training, vaccination programs and awareness campaigns are providing opportunities for women to start small-scale businesses in their homes. These projects have opened up the possibility of increasing women’s income, improving food security and reducing poverty.
Role of Women in Rural Economy and Rural Poultry
According to experts, indigenous poultry farming can be a low-capital and highly profitable source of livelihood for rural women. Even a small poultry unit helps in improving the financial condition of the family through the sale of eggs and meat. Similarly, goat farming, milk production and other livestock activities also play an important role in strengthening the rural economy.
Importance of Day and Rural Women
The development of rural women is actually the development of rural society. If they are provided with education, health, training and economic opportunities, not only will their lives improve but the country’s agricultural and livestock economy will also be strengthened. Therefore, it is necessary that the government, private institutions and development organizations work together to take more effective steps for the welfare and economic independence of rural women.
The International Day of Rural Women gives us the message that empowering rural women is the need of the hour for sustainable development, food security and poverty eradication. Recognizing their hard work, talents and services can form the foundation of a prosperous and developed Pakistan.
