Professional Life of Dr. Waseem Shaukat. A Special Interview
Dr. Waseem Shaukat, General Manager at Solve Agri Pak (Private) Limited, is a dairy professional with over a decade of intensive multidimensional work experience in the Pakistani livestock sector blended with extensive international exposure. Dr. Waseem is a qualified Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) with MPhil in Epidemiology and Public Health from the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore.

During his studies, he has worked as Media Coordinator for UVAS, Editor for The Veterinary News & Views and President for Vets Care Club UVAS. He started his professional career in 2009 with Tetra Pak Pakistan Limited as ‘Dairy Hub Project Executive’ in a dairy development program—Dairy Hub—through an internship leading to the job, where he helped in developing and managing Dairy Hub Monitoring System, a one of its kind software for recording animal health and production data at field level. He also contributed to the development of Dairy Hub farmer training video programs and booklets as key essential extension material for mass awareness of livestock farmers.

He joined UVAS as Deputy Director Business Incubation in 2015 where he helped in strengthening University-industry linkages, research commercialization, and entrepreneurship development. He successfully launched the first-ever startup from UVAS graduate, i.e. www.petsone.pk at UVAS, and worked on various initiatives related to economic development and enhancing University’s impact on the industry and society. During this period, he won the Australia Awards Short Course Award and completed a short training course on Business Incubation Management at the University of Queensland, Australia.

Moreover, Dr. Waseem had been engaged with International Farm Comparison Network (IFCN) since 2012-13 as Research Partner from Pakistan and has been involved in analyzing farm economics at various tiers of the Pakistani dairy farming sector. He also served as General Secretary at Corporate Dairy Farmers’ Association (CDFA) helping in streamlining operational as well as policy-related bottlenecks in the dairy sector.
He had been a member of the Research Advisory Committee of Livestock & Dairy Development Department, Govt of Punjab, and a member of the ORIC Advisory Committee of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore. He is also a member of the National Steering Committee (NSC) of the National Center for Livestock Breeding, Genetics & Genomics (NCLBG&G) constituted by Higher Education Commission Pakistan.
Dr. Waseem has also a vast experience of working for animal welfare and currently serves as the World Animal Day Ambassador for Pakistan, Disaster Liaison Officer in Pakistan for World Animal Protection (former World Society for the Protection of Animals – WSPA) and General Secretary for Vets Care Organization Pakistan.
Dr. Waseem attended various workshops and undertaken trainings on dairy farm management, dairy economics, business management, and animal health in Pakistan, India, Indonesia, Egypt, Singapore, Thailand, Turkey, Italy, Germany, Philippines, Netherlands, United Kingdom, and Australia. His core areas of expertise include dairy farm management, particularly animal health and youngstock management, dairy economics, livestock extension, disaster management, and farm business analysis. He also possesses expertise in livestock business planning including market, technical, and financial feasibilities.
