Professor Dr Nasim Ahmad assumed the charge of UVAS Vice-Chancellor
The Chancellor/Governor of Punjab has appointed Prof. Dr. Nasim Ahmed (Sitara-e-Imtiaz) as the Vice Chancellor of University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore for a period of four years. Prof. Naseem Ahmed assumed charge of his post yesterday.
After assuming charge of the post of Vice Chancellor, Prof. Naim Ahmed said that applied research for the development of the veterinary university and livestock sector, promoting linkages with industry, increasing educational and research collaboration with national and international universities for capacity building of students and teachers, entrepreneurship, improving disease diagnosis and treatment services, promoting extension education, coming up with new development projects, increasing university income and reducing expenses, improving livestock genetics, increasing exports through value addition, value chain of milk and meat, One Health, food safety and quality and smart livestock farming are among his priorities.
Earlier, Professor Dr. Nasim Ahmed was working as an Emeritus Professor at the Veterinary University Lahore. In 2017, Professor Naim served as the first Pro Vice Chancellor of the Veterinary University. Professor Nasiem Ahmed obtained his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Reproductive Physiology from West Virginia University, USA in 1996.
He has served as Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences Business Management, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Science, Director of Research and Director of External Linkages, Director of the Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization and Chairman of the Department of Theriogenology. In recognition of his outstanding services in the field of veterinary science, he was also awarded the Presidential Award “Sitara-e-Imtiaz” by the Government of Pakistan in 2008. Earlier, he had also received the PARC Scientist of the Year award in 1999 and the Best University Teacher award from the Higher Education Commission in 2007.
He has received the Research Productivity Award from the Pakistan Council for Science and Technology three times. He also introduced training in ultrasonography in Pakistan for animal reproduction research. Prof. Dr. Naseem Ahmed has authored 80 research papers with an impact factor of 87.5 and has received 1510 citations. In addition, he has supervised 56 Master’s and 2 PhD students. Prof. Dr. Naseem Ahmed is also the current President of the Society for Animal Reproduction Pakistan.
