Training on Genome Editing continued at UAF – University of Agriculture Faisalabad
To achieve food security, better production and higher breeds of livestock and livestock with higher resistance to diseases at the national level, modern trends including genome editing are inevitable so that food security goals can be achieved and a better standard of living can be ensured.
These views were expressed by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Professor Dr. Iqrar Ahmed Khan, while addressing the inaugural session of a five-day practical training on the topic of genome editing as the chief guest.

The training was organized by the National Center for Genome Editing at the auditorium of the Center for Higher Education, Food and Agriculture. The inaugural session was also addressed by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore, Professor Dr. Naseem Ahmed, and the Vice Chancellor of Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Professor Dr. Muhammad Sajjad Khan.
Dr. Iqrar Ahmed Khan said that despite being an agricultural country, food grains worth $10 billion had to be imported last year, which is a moment of reflection for us. He said that with the financial support of the Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, a genome editing center has been established at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, which is a very important step towards equipping agriculture with the latest genetic facilities, which will help in bringing about a multifold increase in productivity.
Vice Chancellor Veterinary University Lahore, Professor Dr. Naseem Ahmed said that in view of the growing population in the present era, high-yielding agricultural commodities and livestock are the most important need of the hour, for which agricultural scientists will have to make their full efforts.
He said that the process of education and teaching at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad is viewed with respect and dignity not only at the national but also at the international level, which is playing its full role in solving the problems of farmers. He said that the establishment of the genome editing center will create a new chapter in agricultural development.
Vice Chancellor Cholistan Veterinary University Professor Dr. Sajjad Ahmed Khan said that the livestock sector is facing immense difficulties, which can be overcome by promoting genome editing, which will lay the foundation for a new era of development. He said that food security can be ensured only by building the current agricultural system on scientific foundations. Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Anas Sarwar Qureshi, Director CAS Dr. Sultan Habibullah and others were also present on the occasion.
