Silage Making in Pakistan
Dairy farmers face many problems related to animal feed, one of which is that fodder shortage occurs in different parts of the year. The solution to this problem is to preserve it during the days when green fodder is available in abundance.
Generally, to preserve fodder, it is either dried in the form of HAY or its silage is made. If we talk about silage, then this is the most popular way to preserve fodder. From which ordinary farmers as well as commercial and corporate farms are also benefiting.
In the process of making silage, the fodder is chopped, pressed and sealed in a slightly acidic environment. After forty days, the green fodder is ready in the form of silage and becomes available for use.
Silage can be made from diffeent forages, but corn silage is the most widely produced and used. The nutritional value and digestibility of silage are better than that of ordinary forage, meaning it increases milk and meat production. The use of straw may be eliminated by using silage. The daily cost of harvesting, cutting and transporting fodder from the filied is eliminated and labor is saved.
After cutting from the field, the soil can also be cut by bringing it to the farm so that it does not go to the soil. This method also reduces fodder waste and reduces labor costs.

After chopping the fodder, the chopped fodder is pressed so that air can be released from it. There are different methods for storing silage, including making a pit in the ground, bunkers, cement bunkers or pile on ground. But the most common use and method is to store silage in a bunker.
