Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ijaz of UVAS received the PAS Gold Medal. He received Pakistan Academy of Sciences Gold Medal as a researcher. Academy awarded this Gold Medal under the category of Agricultural Sciences, including Veterinary Sciences and Forestry. Moreover, Prof Dr. Muhammad Ijaz is the first professor of UVAS who receives this award. He is a veterinary professor at the Veterinary Medicine Department of UVAS. Furthermore, as a professor of veterinary medicine, he contributed a lot to research and academics.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ijaz – PAS Gold Medal

Prof. Ijaz completed his DVM from UVAS. Moreover, he also got MPhil and PhD from this university. Additionally, he obtained post-doctorate training from Cornell University, USA. Veterinary Professor Ijaz established the Medicine Research Laboratory at UVAS Lahore. He also supervised 12 PhD and 37 MPhil students. Additionally, this  professor of veterinary medicine is the author of 07 books. Besides this, he published over 176 scientific articles. Furthermore, as a professor of veterinary medicine, he has over 3200 citations.

Beyond academia, Veterinary Professor Ijaz played a key role in the preparation of the Punjab Livestock Policy. HEC bestowed him the Best University Teacher Award 2015. In addition to this, he has the distinguished Status of Associate Fellow of UK Higher Education. Furthermore, he has been nominated by the Government of Pakistan to serve as a distinguished member of the Scientific Commission on Animal Diseases to the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH). This Pakistan Academy of Sciences Gold Medal is the reward of his contributions.

Pakistan Academy of Sciences awards the PAS Gold Medal in different categories. Moreover, the Academy honors only one scientist in each category in the specified category. About Pakistan Academy of Sciences

Pakistan Academy of Sciences is a consultative and advisory body on scientific development. Importantly, this a non-political and non-governmental organization. This supreme scientific body is regulated by its Charter and By-laws approved by the Fellows. Furthermore, a Council of Academy governs it while the president of the academy leads it.

History of Pakistan Academy of Sciences

Pakistan Academy of Sciences was founded in 1947 at the First National Educational Conference. Nine eminent scientists were the founding members. Firstly, Dr. Muhammad Riazuddin Saddiqi drafted its charter. Furthermore, then Prime Minister of Pakistan Khwaja Nazimuddin formally inaugurated this academy in 1953. This ceremony was held during the 5th National Science Conference in Lahore. Founding fellows elected Prof. Dr. Muhammad Afzal Hussain as President of the Academy. Moreover, Dr. M. Riazuddin Siddiqi was the Secretary of the Academy.
