Pakistan Poultry Association – PPA

The Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) is the national association of poultry industry registered under the Directorate General Trade Organization (DGTO). It has played a historical role in the growth and development of the poultry industry in Pakistan. It always fights on the front for the issues and challenges faced by the industry. International Poultry Expo is the flagship project of this association of poultry which is a global poultry trade show of Pakistan.

The association of poultry industry is committed to put its efforts for the sustainable growth of the poultry industry. It focuses on business development and improved market efficiency. It also supports research in the poultry industry and works on consumer awareness. Moreover, it plays a primary role in policy advocacy for the poultry sector.

 

Objectives of the Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA)

The objectives of the Pakistan Poultry Association revolve around the unification of industry stakeholders at single platform to resolve issues and strengthen the business. These objectives include:

  1. Promoting Unity and Growth: Building closer relationships among members and stakeholders for the development of poultry farming.
  2. Problem Solving: To address challenges faced by poultry farmers and the poultry industry and to put collaborative effort for the solution.
  3. Data and Communication: Collection and sharing of industry-related statistics and publishing informative materials to benefit members.

  1. Representation: Liaising with local, provincial, and federal authorities to advocate for favorable policies and address issues impacting the industry.
  2. Ethics and Arbitration: Eradication of unethical practices and provision of arbitration services to resolve disputes among members.
  3. Innovation and Research: Encouragement and support for new technologies, support research and innovation improving poultry production efficiency and marketing.

 

History of Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA)

The foundation Stone of the Pakistan Poultry Association was laid down by Mr. Khalil Sattar and Mr. Salahuddin in 1980. Since 1980, this Association of Poultry is putting its efforts into the development of the poultry sector in Pakistan. It played the leading role in day and night efforts for the development of the commercial poultry industry meeting international standards.

PPA reorganized its structure in 1988 through the smooth functioning of elected bodies. In 2007, its new ordinance was issued which resulted in Central Zone, Nothern Zone, and Central Zone. There is a  Central Chairman to lead the association along with the Senior Vice Chairman, Vice Chairman Northern Zone (Punjab), and Vice Chairman Southern Zone (Sindh).

In 2002, the Punjab office of Pakistan Poultry Assicioan in Lahore was upgraded and Maj (R) Syed Javed Hussain Bukhari was appointed as the officer. All major activities of his Association of Poultry are coordinated through this office.

In 2005, the association celebrated its silver jubilee and approved the central general body with the shifting of the central office in Islamabad. Dr. Bashir Mahmood Bhatti was appointed as the central secretary of PPA.

 

Key Milestones of the PPA

  • 1988: Reorganization of the PPA’s for greater efficiency.
  • 1992: Addressed the impacts of the Food Ban Ordinance which restricted poultry consumption at weddings.
  • 2004: Managed losses during the Avian Influenza outbreak and implemented recovery measures.
  • 2007: Relocated the PPA’s central office to Islamabad to enhance coordination with federal agencies.
  • 2009: Contributed to national causes, such as donating Rs.8.4 million for Swat’s displaced persons.

 

International Poultry Expo (IPEX)

International Poultry Expo is the flagship project of the Pakistan Poultry Association. Initially, it was the National Poultry Congress and Exhibition, bringing together stakeholders to share knowledge and showcase innovations. The 2009 congress featured 54 stalls and attracted 3,000 participants, highlighting advancements in poultry medicines, equipment, and farming practices. Get More Information
