National Seminar on PPR in Sheep and Goat
National Seminar on PPR Disease (پی پی آر) organized in Islamabad. Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain said the Federal Government is taking steps to control this disease. The Federal Government has provided PPR vaccine to provinces. We are strengthening livestock with collaborative efforts through Disease control. The government has signed an international agreement for PPR eradication till 2028, he added. Exerts from the Federal Government and Provincial Livestock Department highlighted different aspects of Pest des Petits Ruminants – PPR in Goat and Sheep (کاٹا بیماری). FAO representatives and scientists from PARC also joined.

National Project on PPR Disease
Project Director Dr. Khurshid Ahmed said the project has procured 30 million doses from Turkey for PPR Eradication and Control. Moreover, different research institutes are taking steps for local production of PPR vaccine in provinces also. These institutes include VRI Lahore, VRI Peshawar, SIAH Karachi, and CASVAB Quetta. Besides this, he highlighted the importance of effective surveillance of the disease and sero surveillance related to vaccination. He also discussed the hot spots areas of outbreak of PPR Disease – Pest des Petits Ruminants. He also shared information regarding nomadic movement with livestock and the route of the spread of disease.
Provincial representatives of Livestock Departments also talked about the progress of PPR disease control in the respective provinces. On the other hand, Dr. Muhammad Akram, Animal Husbandry Commissioner emphasized on disease reporting system and disease surveillance regarding PPR in Goat and Sheep. H also focused on the need for local production of PPR Vaccine in this National Seminar on PPR.
