Meeting on Value Addition in Livestock Products and Exports held at Livestock Department Punjab
Livestock and Dairy Development Department Punjab organized an important meeting regarding the promotion of value addition in livestock products and livestock product exports. Prominent stakeholders from the private sector, including dairy, poultry, leather and farmers associations attended the meeting.
The main objective of the meeting was to review the possibilities of increasing exports and maximizing the benefit from the exportable surplus by promoting value addition in the livestock sector. On this occasion, representatives from various sectors presented their valuable suggestions. Importance of Value Addition in Livestock Products and Exports
Stressing the importance of value addition, Secretary Livestock Ahmed Aziz Tarar said that through modern processing, packaging and value addition in livestock products such as meat, milk, dairy products and leather, not only local needs can be met in a better way but also a significant increase in exports can be made possible by increasing competitiveness in global markets.

He added that the use of modern technology, improvement of cold chain system and creation of investment opportunivestock productsities are indispensable for the promotion of value addition in livestock products. The Secretary Livestock encouraged the participants to identify the obstacles and problems in the way of increasing productivity so that local needs can be met as well as increasing exports.
He emphasized that the views of the private sector will be given priority in the policy-making process.

Working Groups on Value Addition in Livestock Products
The Secretary Livestock issued instructions that separate working groups be formed for each sector, which can formulate actionable and effective proposals. The aim of these groups is to identify value addition opportunities, increase export potential and come up with concrete recommendations to address the issues facing the industry.
Issues Highlighted by the Private Sector
During the meeting, stakeholders also highlighted issues related to taxation on industrial machinery, obstacles faced in the export process, cost escalation, and other technical and administrative challenges. Furthermore, various issues related to promotion of value addition, improvement of processing infrastructure and promotion of investment were also discussed in detail. The participants expressed their determination that with the mutual cooperation of the public and private sectors, the livestock sector will be developed on modern lines and an increase in domestic exports will be made possible.
