Poultry, Dairy and Livestock Data 2026 – Economic Survey of Pakistan 2025-26
The Economic Survey of Pakistan 2025-26 has been released, covering livestock data 2026. It includes poultry data, dairy data, fisheries data, livestock exports and livestock population data. It also covers livestock production data 2026 including meat data and milk data. According to the Pakistan Economic Survey 2025-26, the growth rate of the agricultural sector in the country was 2.89 percent, while the rate was 1.53 percent last year. The livestock sector continued to support the agricultural sector and the national economy and its growth rate was 3.75 percent, while the rate was 2.95 percent last year. The fisheries sector recorded a growth of 1.66 percent. Livestock GDP is 14.6%.
Livestock GDP and other Basic Livestock Data 2026
According to the Pakistan Economic Survey 2025-26 and Livestock Data 2026, livestock is the largest component of Pakistan’s agricultural sector. More than 8 million rural families across the country are associated with livestock and 35 to 40 percent of their total income is derived from this sector.
According to Livestock Data 2026, Livestock contributes 62.4 percent to the value addition of the agricultural sector, while its share in the gross domestic product (GDP) is 14.6 percent (Livestock GDP). According to the Pakistan Economic Survey 2025-26, total value of the livestock sector increased from Rs 6004 billion to Rs 6229 billion.
Basic Poultry Data 2026
According to the Poultry Data 2026 of Economic Survey of Pakistan 2025-26, poultry sector is the most important part of the livestock industry and employs more than 1.5 million people across the country. According to the Economic Survey of Pakistan 2025-26 and Poultry Data 2026, the total value addition of the poultry sector has reached Rs 999 billion. During the last decade, the poultry industry recorded an average annual growth of 8.1 percent, while Pakistan has become the eleventh largest poultry producing country in the world. According to poultry data 2026, poultry contributes 43.3 percent to the total meat production.
Fish and Meat Exports Data 2026
According to the Pakistan Economic Survey 2025-26, an increase in meat and fish exports was recorded during July-March 2025-26. Exports of fish and fish products increased from Rs 89.96 billion to Rs 96.08 billion, while exports of meat and meat products increased from Rs 108.96 billion to Rs 113.07 billion. Thus, fish exports recorded an increase of 6.8 percent and meat exports recorded an increase of 3.8 percent.
National Livestock Data 2026 and Livestock Population
According to the Economic Survey of Pakistan 2025-26, the livestock population also increased last year. The number of cows increased from 59.7 million to 61.96 million. The number of buffaloes increased from 47.7 million to 49.1 million. Moreover, number of sheep increased from 33.1 million to 33.5 million. The number of goats increased from 89.4 million to 91.8 million.
According to livestock data 2026, the number of camels remained at 1.2 million, horses at 400,000 and mules at 200,000, while the number of donkeys increased from 6 million to 6.2 million. These figures are based on the data of the 2006 Census and the 1996 Census.

Livestock Population and Livestock Census 2024
It should be noted that a fresh livestock census was also conducted in 2024, the data of which has been released. According to the livestock population data of Livestock Census 2024, the number of cows in Pakistan is 55.8 million, the number of buffaloes is 47.7 million, the number of sheep is 44.5 million, the number of goats is 95.8 million, while the number of camels is 1.50 million.
These figures of livestock population will be used as official statistics in the future. Since livestock production data and other figures have not been fully released according to this data, the latest Economic Survey of Pakistan 2025-26 has included figures based on the 2006 and 1996 censuses. Livestock Data 2026 and Provincial Livestock Population
The livestock population in the provinces can also be estimated based on the livestock data of the Pakistan Economic Survey 2025-26 and the Livestock census 2006. The livestock population in the provinces has further increased by the same proportion. The number of cows in Punjab has increased to about 30.18 million, in Sindh to 14.49 million, in Balochistan to 4.72 million, and in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to 12.57 million.
According to livestock population data, number of buffaloes reached 31.89 million in Punjab, 13.18 million in Sindh, 0.58 million in Balochistan and 3.47 million in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The number of sheep reached 8.05 million in Punjab, 5.01 million in Sindh, 16.18 million in Balochistan and 4.25 million in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to livestock population data, the number of goats reached 33.85 million in Punjab, 21.45 million in Sindh, 20.12 million in Balochistan and 16.39 million in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. If we talk about camels, their number is 0.50 million in Balochistan, 0.37 million in Sindh, 0.25 million in Punjab and 0.08 million in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Livestock Data 2026 – Meat Data and Milk Data
According to the Pakistan Economic Survey 2025-26 also covers milk data and meat data. According to milk data, the total production of milk has increased from 72.3 billion liters to 74.7 billion liters. This includes 28.1 billion liters of cow milk, 44.4 billion liters of buffalo milk, 1.13 billion liters of goat milk, 994 million liters of camel milk and 44 million liters of sheep milk.
Moreover, this milk data says the amount of milk available for human consumption has increased from 58.3 billion liters to 60.2 billion liters. It covers 22.48 billion litres cow milk, 35.5 billion liters buffalo milk, 44 million litres of sheep milk, 1.13 billion liters of goat milk, and 994 million liters of camel milk.
According to the survey milk data, about 20 percent of milk production is not available for human consumption, of which 15 percent is due to supply chain and cold chain problems, while 5 percent is used in calf feeding.
According to meat data, significant increase was also recorded in meat production. Total meat production increased from 5.97 million tons to 6.31 million tons. This includes 2.63 million tons of beef, 854 thousand tons of mutton and 2.83 million tons of poultry meat. Egg production increased from 26.7 billion to 28.3 billion.
Other Livestock Data 2026 – Livestock Products
According to Pakistan Economic Survey 2025-26, the number of animal hides increased from 20.7 million to 21.4 million. This includes 11.1 million cow hides, 10.3 million buffalo hides and 121,000 camel hides. The number of small animal skins increased from 66.7 million to 68.3 million. This includes 12.7 million sheep skins, 35.4 million goat skins, 3.8 million lamb skins and 16.4 million lamb skins. The production of fancy skins was recorded at 20.2 million.
According to the Pakistan Economic Survey 2025-26, the production of wool was 50.8 thousand tons, hair 34.5 thousand tons, edible offals 503 thousand tons, blood 84.6 thousand tons, hooves and horns 75.4 thousand tons, bones 1.13 million tons, fat 356.1 thousand tons, dung 1.64 million tons, urine 491 thousand tons and heads and trotters 320.8 thousand tons. The number of casings was 68.9 million while the number of intestines was 22.8 million.
Poultry Data 2026 and Poultry Production Data
There was also significant growth in the poultry sector according to the Poultry Data 2026 of Pakistan Economic Survey 2025-26. The number of rural poultry birds increased from 96.98 million to 98.48 million. This includes 14.69 million cocks, 48.88 million hens and 34.91 million chicks. Acooridng ot poultry data 2026, number of eggs obtained from rural poultry was 4.89 billion while meat production was 140 thousand tons.
The number of Duck, Drake & Duckling remained at 0.31 million. The number of eggs obtained from them decreased from 13.89 million to 13.32 million while meat production was recorded from 420 tons to 400 tons.
According to poultry data 2026, the number of commercial poultry increased from 1.97 billion to 2.16 billion. This includes 2.27 billion broilers, 89.7 million layers and 18.3 million breeding stock. The number of commercial day-old chicks reached 2.37 billion. The number of eggs produced by commercial poultry was 23.39 billion while meat production was 2.69 million tonnes.
According to Poultry Data 2026, total number of poultry birds was 2.47 billion, the number of day-old chicks was 2.40 billion, the number of eggs was 28.3 billion and the production of poultry meat was 2.83 million tonnes.
Fisheries Sector Data 2026
The fisheries sector also showed positive performance and its growth rate was 1.66%. This sector contributes 1.29% to the agricultural economy and 0.30% to GDP. During July-March 2025-26, the total fish production was 642.18 thousand tonnes, of which 427.18 thousand tonnes were obtained from marine and 215 thousand tonnes from inland water bodies. During the same period, Pakistan exported about 200 thousand tonnes of fish and fishery products, earning $405.1 million in foreign exchange. China, Thailand, UAE, Malaysia and Japan were major buyers of Pakistan’s fishery products.
Government Initiatives for the Livestock Sector
The federal government has launched various private sector-led initiatives for livestock development, food security and poverty reduction, including improvement of veterinary health services, artificial insemination, embryo transfer technology, in vitro fertilization (IVF) and disease control projects.
According to the Economic Survey of Pakistan 2025-26, the government is taking various steps to increase livestock and meat exports. The National Meat Sector Transformation and Export Council has been established with the aim of establishing disease control, traceable and export quality meat value chains. The government has set a target of increasing meat exports from $500 million to about $700 million by 2028.
Projects and Exports
The federal government is also implementing several projects to prevent animal diseases. In collaboration with FAO, WHO, World Bank and other international organizations, work is being done on antimicrobial resistance, One Health, epidemic disease surveillance, improvement of veterinary laboratories and disease surveillance. The Central Development Working Party of the Planning Commission has given in-principle approval to the Rs 7.35 billion National Program for Animal Disease Surveillance, Foot and Mouth Disease and PPR Control and Track and Traceability project. The project aims to control animal diseases, establish a traceability system as per international standards and gain new markets for livestock exports.
The government is also working on registration and sanitary protocols for exports of livestock, meat and dairy products with various countries including China, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Iran, Uzbekistan, Russia, Malaysia, Oman, Vietnam, Hong Kong and Singapore. A regular sanitary protocol has also been agreed with China for the export of donkey meat and related products, while approval has also been given to establish a donkey slaughterhouse in the Gwadar Free Zone.
