Rosette pattern varies between Leopard species. East African Leopards have circular rosettes while Southern African Leopards have square ones. They are white in the underbelly. Variation in body color also relates to habitat.

Leopards have short and ringed tail. Their pupils are round and dilated due to which they can see well in dark conditions. They are nocturnal animals and hunt during the night.

Leopards inhabit a diverse array of habitats, including forests, grasslands, scrublands, and even semi-desert regions. They are widely distributed across sub-Saharan Africa, parts of the Middle East, South and Southeast Asia, and the Russian Far East. Their adaptability allows them to thrive in both wilderness areas and human-dominated landscapes.

Leopard also exists in Pakistan. It is mainly found in Margalla hills, Murree, Ayubia National Park, and the forests of Neelam Valley. There are also some reports of its existence in desert areas of Punjab.

The main threat to Leopard is the destruction of its habitat. Extensive deforestation and urbanization are destroying its habitat. Moreover, its prey area is also decreasing. Human competition for livestock and agriculture is also damaging leopard habitat. Another threat is poaching. Overall, leopards are listed as “vulnerable” by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Different subspecies of leopards have different status of conservation between endangered to near threatened.
