Lahore Zoo Animal Adoption Program Reactivated | Adopt Animals
Lahore Zoo has reactivated the Bird and Animal adoption program. However, this Lahore Zoo Animal Adoption Program allows both private citizens and organizations to adopt animals under the Lahore Zoo adoption scheme.
According to zoo officials, a private school has already adopted a male hippopotamus under the recently reactivated program. The initiative allows individuals, educational institutions and other organizations to adopt animals by paying an annual adoption fee.
The annual adoption fee for big cats, including lions and tigers, has been fixed at Rs. 1 million (10 lakh). The fee for a hippopotamus is Rs. 600,000 (6 lakh), while adoption of a giraffe costs Rs. 300,000 (3 lakh) annually.
Similarly, the annual adoption fee for a deer is Rs. 100,000 (1 lakh), whereas the fee for other antelope species has been set at Rs. 150,000 (1.5 lakh).
The adoption program has attracted participation from prominent personalities and educational institutions in the past. Pakistani actresses Reema, Babra Sharif and Meera have previously adopted animals at Lahore Zoo.
Several leading educational institutions have also participated in the initiative, including the University of the Punjab and Government College University (GCU).
Lahore Zoo Introduces Animal Adoption
Program
The administration of Lahore Zoo has introduced an animal adoption scheme to encourage public participation in animal welfare and conservation. Under the program, members of the public, corporations and other organizations can adopt an animal of their choice for a specified period and contribute towards its feeding and care expenses.
Public Can Adopt Zoo Animals
Under the scheme, interested individuals and organizations can select an animal for adoption. The adopters are expected to bear the feeding expenses of the animal during the adoption period. The initiative provides an opportunity for the public and organizations to directly support the care and welfare of animals at the zoo.
Support Lahore Zoo’s Animal Care
The program also allows adopters to share the cost of Lahore Zoo’s substantial animal food bill, which exceeds Rs. 75 million annually. By participating, individuals and organizations can contribute directly to animal welfare while supporting conservation activities at one of South Asia’s oldest zoos.

Benefits for Adopters
As part of the adoption scheme, adopters receive a recognition certificate and zoo education material. They can also enjoy free visits to Lahore Zoo during the adoption period.
In addition, the adopter’s name or message is displayed on a name plate at the animal’s cage or enclosure. This provides a visible association between the adopter and the animal they have chosen to support.
Opportunity to Reach Millions of Visitors
The scheme also provides organizations and individuals with an opportunity to increase their visibility among zoo visitors. Lahore Zoo attracts around 4.5 million visitors annually, giving adopters an opportunity to connect with a large audience while contributing to animal welfare and conservation.
Promoting Animal Welfare and Conservation
The adoption program aims to strengthen public involvement in the care of zoo animals and create greater awareness about wildlife conservation. Through the initiative, Lahore Zoo seeks to encourage individuals, educational institutions, businesses, and other organizations to play a practical role in supporting animal welfare.
The reactivation of the program is expected to provide individuals and organizations with an opportunity to contribute to animal care and zoo management while developing greater public interest in wildlife conservation and animal welfare.
