Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Haroon Akhtar Khan stated that the poultry industry should establish a strong presence in global markets alongside meeting domestic needs; an export strategy is essential for achieving this goal.

He emphasized that Pakistan requires a poultry industry capable of efficient production, providing affordable nutrition to the public, and competing at international standards. He stated that ensuring the uninterrupted availability of feed and other essential raw materials for the poultry industry is crucial; furthermore, decisions regarding the import of soybeans and other vital inputs must be made based on clear requirements and within established timeframes to spare the industry from uncertainty.

Haroon Akhtar Khan remarked that Pakistani poultry products should be of such quality that global buyers choose them repeatedly based on standards and competitive pricing. A practical roadmap for exports will be developed in collaboration with the Pakistan Poultry Association, clearly outlining priority markets, necessary approvals, production capacity, and respective responsibilities.

Poultry Science Conference

Dr. Hanif Nazir Chaudhry also spoke on the significance of the Poultry Science Conference and expressed his gratitude to the leadership, faculty, and students of the Veterinary University for their active participation and sincere efforts in ensuring the event’s success.

Addressing the gathering, Professor Dr. Masood Rabbani emphasized the vital importance of using mobile applications to collect data for monitoring poultry farming and production in the modern era. He stressed the need to promote and advance such scientific initiatives.

There is a pressing need to seriously explore alternatives to antibiotics for combating poultry diseases and infections, thereby ensuring flock health and the supply of high-quality products.

Industry Issues highlighted at IPEX 2026 Day 1

On this occasion, Malik Muhammad Sharif thanked the Government of Pakistan, noting that further government support would make affordable protein more accessible to the public. Additionally, this would boost Pakistan’s meat exports and enable the country to earn significantly more foreign exchange.

Abdul Basit stated that the country’s poultry sector is grappling with unnecessary government-imposed taxes on day-old chicks and sales tax on raw meat; these levies place a burden on the sector and adversely affect poultry meat production. Abdul Basit and Khalil Sattar also demanded the immediate withdrawal of all such unnecessary taxes imposed on the poultry industry.

Earlier, while highlighting the core objectives of the International Poultry Expo and Conference, Dr. Rana Sajjad Arshad explained that the event aims to provide a platform where academicians, researchers, poultry farmers, industry professionals, and entrepreneurs can exchange research findings, knowledge, and experiences to foster the sector’s development.
