On the occasion of International Animal Rights Day, a seminar was organized by IUB Animal Welfare Society, Directorate of Students Affairs, Islamia University of Bahawalpur. The seminar highlighted important issues related to animal rights.
International Animal Rights Day History and Difference from Animal Welfare
On this occasion, the society’s advisor and Assistant Professor of Physiology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Mosaddiq Idrees stressed on public awareness about animal rights in Pakistan.
Director Wildlife Department and Curator Bahawalpur Zoo Dr. Tariq Mahmood and Inspector of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Abu Sufyan Rao highlighted the role of their respective institutions in protecting animal rights in Pakistan.
Divisional Director of the Livestock and Dairy Development Department Bahawalpur Dr. Muhammad Syed Sabtain Shah appreciated the efforts of the IUB Animal Welfare Society. He also highlighted the role of the Livestock Department in protecting animal rights.
Deputy Director Livestock Cholistan, Dr. Adeel Khalid, Additional Director Livestock Bahawalnagar Dr. Rizwana Akram, Rao Sajjad Qamar and others also expressed their views on various issues related to animal rights in Pakistan.
Chairman Department of Physiology Prof. Dr. Umar Farooq, Chairman Department of Animal Nutrition Prof. Dr. Zahid Kamran, Chairman Department of Poultry Science Dr. Shakeel Ahmed, Dr. Aamir Iftikhar, Dr. Yasir Mahmood and Dr. Muhammad Asad and others reiterated the importance of animal rights advocacy in Pakistan.
President of IUB Animal Welfare Society Dr. Asad Ali thanked his team members and other departments of Islamia University of Bahawalpur for organizing the seminar related to World Animal Rights Day. It should be noted that International Animal Rights Day is celebrated every year on 10 December.
