Letter to PM regarding Increase in prices of Feed Ingredients
Respected Prime Minister of Pakistan — I belong to the dairy and livestock industry. At present, where inflation has broken the back of the common man, even the speechless have fallen victim to this inflation. In the last two years, the price of animal feed has increased by 100 percent, due to which farmers are now unable to feed their animals.
Farmers are moving away from farming due to non-payment of expenses. If this situation continues, not only will there be a crisis of shortage of milk and meat in the coming times, but a large number of people associated with the country’s largest industry will become unemployed. This will not only lead to an economic crisis for the country, but due to lack of pure milk, children will also face mental weakness as well as dangerous physical diseases.
Your Excellency, the prices of ingredients used in feed have increased immensely since 2018. Wheat bran, which is a byproduct of wheat and is tax-free, is priced higher than wheat, while the price of any byproduct should not be increased by more than half of its crop price. But the price of this byproduct is higher than the crop price.
Feed millers allegedly bought millions of tons of maize from the markets at cheap prices with the help of banks and stored it and then created an artificial shortage, increasing the price of maize by more than 80% in just one month.
The vestige that private companies sell to make their products from maize is in many ways more expensive than maize. Similarly, the prices of medicines and minerals have also increased many times.
The ingredients mentioned are an important part of the feed. The increasing prices of these ingredients are not benefiting the country but the mafia. This mafia is licking the country like a termite.
I request you to control this mafia as soon as possible and form a high-level committee in which the representatives of farmers should also be directly involved so that a comprehensive policy can be made in the future and farmers can be protected from harm.
