Every creature created by nature plays an important role in maintaining the natural balance of the environment. Similarly, wild animals also play an important role in the ecosystem. A decrease or excess in the number of any one animal species affects the ecological balance and leads to the deterioration of the ecosystem. This has negative effects on the environment as a whole and humans also have to face these negative effects. Assistant Director Wildlife  Nimra Rasheed expressed her views.

Punishment for Wild Animals at Home under Wildlife Act

She says unfortunately the species and types of wildlife are rapidly decreasing due to illegal wildlife hunting. Keeping wild animals at home is also affecting this. This is affecting the ecosystem leading to pollution, climate change, and other problems. Every wild animal plays its role in the balance of forests and the natural environment. Both the rampant hunting of these animals and the rapid destruction of forests are influencing each other. Human beings are facing the consequences as a whole.

Protected Species under the Wildlife Act

Nimra Rasheed says the wildlife department has given the status of protected species to some animals. These protected species include some ducks, deer, foxes, mongoose, pangolins, wild cats, and others. It aims to protect these wild animals and birds throughout the year. Therefore, their illegal hunting and illegal possession or keeping wild animals at home is a violation of the Punjab Wildlife Act 1974 Amendment 2007 and a serious crime. Moreover, the violator of this law can be punished with a fine of 10,000 to 15,000 or two years imprisonment or both including confiscation of animals or birds.

 Wildlife Rights and Public

Nimra Rasheed further says nature has created wildlife as free in nature. Detaining or keeping wild animals at home  is a violation of their rights. Similarly illegal wildlife hunting is also disastrous.

She appealed to the common citizens to discourage the elements involved in the illegal sale and purchase of wild birds and wild animals should be discouraged. Moreover, we should not demand wild animals and birds from such people. In this case, this network of illegal buying and selling can be broken. If one is interested in keeping wild parrots, get the birds from a registered breeding farm. She further says instead of enjoying monkey and bear stunts, people should discourage such elements so that the rights of wild animals are taken care of.
