Herd Transformation Initiative of CM Punjab aims at improving livestock breeds
Under the flagship project of the Chief Minister of Punjab, “Herd Transformation Initiative”, the Livestock and Dairy Development Department of Punjab is implementing a comprehensive, effective and far-reaching program for the improvement of cow and buffalo breeds on scientific grounds. The aim of this livestock breed improvement project is to improve the productivity and genetic quality of livestock in the province.
According to the information released by the Livestock Department of Punjab, under the project, quality semen of domestic and foreign breeds with high genetic potential is being provided at cost-to-cost and subsidized rates in all veterinary hospitals.
Bovine Semen Availability under Herd Transformation Initiative
In all hospitals of the Livestock Department, Brahman semen will be available at Rs 500, Friesian at Rs 150, and semen of Sahiwal, Cholistani and Nili Ravi breeds at Rs 50. In the next phase, sexed semen will also be provided.

Sexed semen of Sahiwal, Cholistani, Dhani and Nili Ravi will be provided free of cost to registered cattle in the Progeny Testing Program. Dajal semen will be available to farmers in DG Khan, Rajanpur and tribal areas. Semen of Holstein Friesian will be provided on subsidy in ten more districts. Along with this, modern technologies like IVF are also being introduced.
