One of the main reasons for the success of developed dairy industries is the establishment of dairy cooperatives. Under this system, farmers become members and shareholders of cooperative organizations. These cooperatives collect milk from farmers, process it, manufacture dairy products. Further these products are marketed by cooperatives. Profits is distributed among members.
In countries where cooperatives are strong, farmers do not depend on middlemen. Instead, they collectively own processing plants, milk collection centers, feed mills, and marketing networks. This increases farmers’ income and improves milk quality.
