VC UVAS Prof. Dr. Naseem Ahmed organized a ceremony in honor of Prof Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha. He has completed the tenure of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Education Lahore.

Prof Dr. Kausar Abdullah Malik graced the ceremony. He is Caretaker Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research.

Minister for Livestock Punjab Ibrahim Hassan Murad also joined. On the other hand, Former Vice Chancellors of UVAS also attended the event.

Participants congratulated Prof. Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha on completion of tenure. Participants also appreciated his services for higher education and research.

Farwell for Prof. Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha at UVAS

Vice Chancellor University of Education

Prof. Talat Naseer Pasha served as Vice Chancellor of University of Education Lahore. He has more than forty years of experience. His experience is in teaching and research. He has also experience in management and development activities.

Earlier, he completed two terms as Vice Chancellor for UVAS Lahore. Apart from this, he was the founder vice chancellor of CUVAS. This is Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences. This university is located in Bahawalpur.

Prof Pasha assumed the charge of VC University of Education Lahore in November 2019. At that time, the university was facing many challenges.

As a Vice Chancellor, he put his efforts to strengthen the University. Besides developing infrastructure, he also focused standard of education. He also took steps for learning and teaching facilities.

Contributions for University of Education

Prof Pasha established three new faculties of the university. He also developed 32 new science and education labs. In addition to this, he also established 7 modern Computer labs. Three botanical gardens were also developed.

Meanwhile, he also started 50 Bachelor, 52 MS/MPhil and 18 PhD new programs. He got approval from Higher Education Commission, before starting these programs.

Moreover, he appointed and promoted 27 professors and 47 associate professors. Along with this, he also appointed 125 assistant professors.

Not only main campus, Prof. Pasha also focused the other campuses. He contributed new academic blocks to Township Campus. Joharabad Campus and Dera Ghazi Khan Campus also got the new blocks.

Moreover, management also added class rooms in different campuses. They also added day care centers and Tuck Shops in various campuses.

On the other hand, university signed more than 60 MoUs. This step strengthened the industry and University linkages.

Besides this, a large number of international students also became part of the university. These students were from China, Gambia and Iran .

Besides the development of University, Prof. Pasha also focused on needy students. University took various steps to provide financial help. This was specially focused during the COVID and floods.

For Online Classes, University provided laptops to the teachers. Besides this, university also trained them.

Contributions of Prof. Talat Naseer Pasha as VC UVAS

During the tenure of Prof. Talat Naseer Pasha, UVAS got the first position among Pakistani universities. University also received 101-200 position among the world top universities. This position was under the Times Higher Education Impact Ranking 2020.

Prof. Pasha established first veterinary academy of Pakistan at UVAS. Royal Veterinary College London collaborated for this. In addition to this, he completed 8 development projects. Worth of these projects was more than 7.5 billion rupees. These were funded by Government of Punjab and Higher Education Commission.

These projects increased quality of education and research. These also provided training facilities for farmers and related industries. This also helped value addition and export of livestock products.

In 2016, he established the Center of Applied Policy Research for Livestock. The center is supporting government and stakeholders. This help is through research based policy papers. However, this center published more than twenty papers.

Dairy Training Centre at UVAS

Prof Pasha received funding in 2017 for innovation in dairy sector of Pakistan. He took steps for training of teachers, farmers and students. Under this project, a Dairy Research and Training Center was established at Ravi Campus.

University imported Holstein cows from the America. This center trained 1800 farmers. In addition to this, it also trained 300 students as well as faculty members.

Furthermore, this Center provided professional services to 80 farms. More than 3000 farmers visited this farm.

However, this center promoted innovation in dairy farming. This also provided an opportunity for dairy professionals to learn.

Additional Charge of VC UVAS

Prof. Dr. Talat Pasha had the additional charge of Vice Chancellor, Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences. He established this university with the approval of PC-I. Cost of this project was Rs 3.3 billion. Availability of 1000 acres of land was the primary task. Besides this, he completed the appointment of teachers.

In addition to this, the University is also helping teaching and research activities in South Punjab. These activities are related to the field of veterinary and animal sciences.

Public Welfare and Social Activities of Prof. Talat Naseer Pasha

Prof. Talat Naseer Pasha also started public and social welfare activities. These activities focused the surroundings of Ravi Campus. Under his supervision, 1500 farmers were registered for training. These farmers belonged to seven districts of Punjab and Sindh. In addition to this, they were also linked to the market. This linkage was under Pakistan Australian Dairy Project.

To provide services at the doorsteps of farmers, UVAS started 24/7 extension services.

Moreover, University also established Dairy Club, Poultry Club and Aqua Club. These clubs provided opportunities to all stake holders to come together on relevant platforms.

Prof. Pasha also launched the “School Milk Program” in 2021. This program focused more than 9000 students of 90 schools. This program selected Sheikhupura and Attock districts. Dairy Industry supported this project.

Research Contributions of Prof. Talat Naseer Pasha

Prof. Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha focused his research on the poultry and dairy sector and related industries. His primary research work was on mineral mapping of canal irrigated districts of Punjab.

This helped the feed industry to develop mineral supplements according to the requirement of specific areas.

Awards of Prof. Talat Nasir Pasha

Prof. Talat Naseer Pasha received Civil Award “Hilal-iImtiaz” for his valuable services. He contributed in the field of education, research and development as well as community work.

Moreover, he also got “Satara-i-Imtiaz” Civil Award in 2016.

Besides other awards, he also received the Higher Education Commission Best University Teacher Award 2009. This award was in recognition of his teaching skills.
