The Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore, in collaboration with the Department of Pathology, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Jhang and Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council (PVMC), organized the closing ceremony of a three-day Faculty Development Workshop on Cancer Identification to Improve the Lives of Small Animals at City Campus, Lahore.
The closing ceremony was presided over by Federal Joint Secretary Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination Usman Sarosh and Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Naseem Ahmed. The ceremony was attended by Pro Vice Chancellor Veterinary University Lahore Prof. Dr. Masood Rabbani, President Pakistan Veterinary Medical Association Dr. Muhammad Arshad, Director Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology Prof. Dr. Waseem Shahzad, Vice President Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council Dr. Nazir Hussain Bhatti and Dr. Waseem Rafique, along with a large number of faculty members, postgraduate students and professors from various educational institutions of Pakistan.
Workshop on Diagnosis of Cancer in Small Animals
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Usman Sarosh said that organizing a workshop on informative topics is very effective in teaching young veterinarians modern sciences related to the field. He appreciated the efforts of the workshop organizers, the university and the Veterinary Council. Professor Dr. Naseem Ahmed urged the young veterinarians to improve their professional skills and learn modern practical work, techniques and skills of the present era.
The objective of the three-day workshop was to provide participants with an understanding of trends related to animal cancer, cancer biomarkers, molecular and histopathological techniques and other tools in terms of faculty development. In the workshop, national and international experts gave detailed lectures to the participants on various topics related to cancer assessment in small animals, cancer biomarkers, cell cycle, cancer classification and diagnostic techniques in dogs, cancer treatment using local herbs, biopsy reporting for tumor diagnosis, tissue preservation and processing, common cancers in pets, and genome analysis of dogs.
