Two Himalayan brown bears named Bablu and Suzi have also been transferred from Marghzar Zoo to the sanctuary. With the efforts of Four Paws International and various local animal rights activists, they will spend time at the Al Mawah Nature and Wildlife Sanctuary, run by the Princess Alia Foundation. This Jordanian sanctuary was established in 2011 in collaboration with the Princess Alia Foundation and Four Paws.
Dr. Amir Khalil of Four Paws and his team shifted the bears to Jordan in a special enclosure under their supervision. The bears have been kept in quarantine, after which they will be released to the sanctuary.
It should be noted that earlier, the Kawan elephant from Marghzar Zoo was transferred to the Cambodian Sanctuary after many years of struggle in light of the Islamabad High Court decision. In this regard, the Four Paws team had undergone special training at the Kawan Zoo. During the visit, the team also identified a pair of 17-year-old bears in the zoo, who were spending time in a very bad condition.
Upon arrival in Pakistan, experts treated the bears and started the process to transfer them to the sanctuary. Last week, during the transfer in the presence of Dr. Amir Khalil, the Ministry of Climate Change refused to grant a permit. The court expressed its anger over this behavior of the ministry and ordered the immediate transfer of the bears. Now the bears have reached the Jordanian sanctuary.
