Ban on slaughtered poultry meat – ذبح شدہ مرغی کے گوشت پر پابندی
The Punjab government has taken a good step to protect the health of consumers by banning the sale of pre-slaughtered chicken meat. The Punjab Livestock Department has issued instructions in this regard that citizens should not buy pre-slaughtered chicken and that chicken vendors should slaughter healthy chickens in front of the customer. The aim of the measure is to prevent the sale of haram and suspicious meat.
The Livestock Department has also urged consumers to buy live chickens and have them slaughtered in front of them. For some time, complaints were being received from the public that shopkeepers were selling sick or dead chickens, for which the term “cold chicken” is used in the market, while the Food Authority also seized a large number of dead chickens during its operations across the province, which apparently had no other purpose than to sell their meat. Beef and goat meat have a government seal of approval, which indicates that it is fresh and halal meat, while there is no such law regarding the sale of white meat, especially chicken meat.
Generally, shopkeepers slaughter dozens of chickens in advance, about which it is not even clear whether Takbir was recited while slaughtering them or not, and the public has to buy these chickens willingly or unwillingly. In such a situation, this step of the Livestock Department is commendable.
Other provinces should also follow this, however, it is important that the department does not limit its activities to issuing notices only, but also ensure that shopkeepers are not selling already slaughtered chickens. Those who violate the above orders should be dealt with strictly. The public should also realize their responsibilities in this regard and should buy live chickens and have their meat cooked in front of their eyes so that there is no doubt.
