Livestock Department Punjab observed AMR Awareness Week 2024

A symposium was organized in the Livestock Department Punjab in collaboration with the Fleming Fund on Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week. An AMR Awareness walk regarding AMR Awareness Week 2024 was also organized.

Secretary Livestock Saqib Ali Ateel, while addressing the ceremony, said that Antimicrobial Resistance is not only a challenge for animals but also a threat to human health. AMR is also a major challenge in increasing livestock exports. Antimicrobial resistance in Pakistan has reached 63 percent.

The Secretary of Livestock further said that One Health is the only solution to deal with AMR. Living beings are interconnected and they are affecting each other’s lives. Secretary Livestock Saqib Ali Ateel further said that the Livestock Department is very active in disease surveillance and control. He said that officers should be provided better training to control AMR. More livestock farms should be shifted to the One Health model.

Dr. Abdul Rehman from the Fleming Fund said on this occasion that antimicrobial resistance is a global challenge. Director General Research Dr. Sajjad Hussain and Director General Extension Dr. Muhammad Ashraf, along with other government officials and representatives of private organizations, also attended the event.
