Dog culling is an extremely cruel practice. In ancient times, this method was used to eliminate the dog breed. In developed countries, dog culling has been declared a completely unsuccessful practice. These views were expressed by representatives of animal rights organizations at a press conference. On this occasion, CDRS Chairperson Timothy Todd Shea said that dog culling is not only harmful to the natural environment. It can also have a profound impact on human psychology.
He said that the painful death of dogs after being shot and poisoned in public not only damages the thinking of adults but also has a profound impact on the thinking of children.
Aneza Khan of Give Us Life Animal Welfare said that the minds of children are busy in the learning process. The bodies of bullet-ridden dogs lying on the streets have a negative impact on the minds of these innocent children. This gives rise to negative attitudes in society. She said that one of the reasons for intolerance in the society is the unknowing cruelty towards animals.
PARAG Focal Person Aiza Haider said that dogs are the best friends of man. Dogs are not considered pests anywhere but are taken as Companion Animals.
The participants of the press conference further said that after our tireless work, the Punjab government has started taking the harm caused by violence against animals and the dog killing campaign seriously. He said that in the case Humza Khan Vs Govt Of Punjab, which started in 2016, the dog killing campaign was declared unscientific and an alternative method was demanded.
About the alternative method, it was said that this is the process of TNVR, which is a WHO ßOIE approved method for controlling the number of dogs. In this process, the dog is captured and sterilized to eliminate its breeding potential and released after vaccination. The participants said that even if the dog bites a human after vaccination, the rabies germs do not enter.
The participants further said that sterilization not only controls the number of dogs but also reduces the tendency of dogs to bite as much as possible.
On this occasion, it was further said that sterilization or neutering can play an important role in reducing the number of dog bites and the number of infected people.
The participants said that after sterilization and vaccination, the dog is no longer dangerous but its temperament becomes soft. It does not set its own boundaries nor does it fight with other dogs for mates.
The participants said that we also need to improve our behavior. The dog is an intelligent animal and understands the intentions of humans who are dangerous and harmful and responds accordingly.
It was said that a major reason for dogs attacking people is the hatred people have for dogs. People throw stones at dogs as they pass by. Children tease them separately. The participants said that we should also keep in mind the kindness towards animals in the education of children and this aspect should also be included in the textbooks.
