
Poultry and Livestock Data 2025 – Pakistan Economic Survey 2024-25
The Pakistan Economic Survey 2024-25 has been released including livestock population, poultry data and livestock data 2025 based on livestock census. Milk Data and Meat Data of Pakistan have also been included. According to the Economic Survey of Pakistan 2024-25, Livestock GDP Share increased showing better growth. This sector also supported agriculture along with the national economy.
Livestock Data 2025 and Livestock GDP
According to the Economic Survey of Pakistan 2024-25, the overall growth rate in the country was 2.68 percent. Due to the decline in the production of major crops, the agriculture sector could not show a good performance overall and its growth rate was 0.56 percent. On the other hand, the livestock sector showed remarkable performance like in previous years and supported the country’s economy along with the agriculture sector.
The growth rate in the livestock sector was 4.72 percent, which was 4.38 percent last year. The share of livestock GDP in the agriculture sector increased from 60.84 percent to 63.6 percent. The share of livestock GDP in the national gross domestic product (GDP) was 14.97 percent. Share of livestock in the country’s exports was 2.9 percent, which includes meat, live animals and other livestock products and by-products.

Livestock Data 2025 and Livestock Population
According to the latest Livestock Data 2025 from the Economic Survey of Pakistan 2024-25 on livestock population 2025, the number of animals and their production also increased last year. This is based on Livestock Census of 1996 and 2006. The number of cows increased from 57.5 million to 59.7 million. Buffaloes population increased by 1.4 million, from 46.3 million to 47.7 million.
The number of sheep increased from 32.7 million to 33.1 million. The number of goats increased by 2.4 million, from 87 million to 89.4 million. Donkeys increased by one lakh and it increased from 5.9 million to 6 million. On the other hand, the number of horses remained at 4 lakh, camels at 1.2 million and mules at 2 million.
These figures on livestock population have been compiled on the basis of the livestock census 1996 and 2006. On the other hand, the latest livestock census by the Bureau of Statistics is also in the final stages and will be completed very soon.
Provincial Livestock Population 2025
The livestock population 2025 in the provinces can also be obtained on the basis of the Economic Survey of Pakistan 2024-25 data and the livestock census 2006. According to livestock data 2025, the number of animals in the provinces also increased by this ratio. The number of cows in Punjab is 29.11 million, in Sindh 13.98 million, in Balochistan 4.55 million and in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, it is 12.06 million. The number of buffaloes in Punjab has increased to 30.98 million, in Sindh to 12.81 million, in Balochistan to 0.56 million and in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to 3.37 million.

According to livestock population 2025 data and Livestock Census, the number of sheep has increased to 7.95 million in Punjab, 4.95 million in Sindht, 15.99 million in Balochistan and 4.20 million in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The number of goats in Punjab is 32.96 million, in Sindh 20.89 million, in Balochistan 19.58 million and in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to 15.96 million. Camel population is 0.50 million in Balochistan, 0.37 million in Sindh, 0.25 million in Punjab and 0.08 million in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as per livestock census based calculations.
Poultry Data 2025
The poultry sector is an important part of the livestock sector and a major contributor of livestock GDP. It provides employment to 1.5 million people. The Rs 923.5 billion industry has been growing at an average annual rate of 8.1 percent in the last decade. According to meat data in Pakistan Economic Survey 2024-25, Poultry accounts for 43.3 percent of total meat production.
According to poultry data given in the Economic Survey of Pakistan 2024-25, the number of poultry birds has also increased. The number of rural poultry has increased from 95.5 million to 96.98 million. This includes 14.3 million chickens, 48.02 million hens and 34.66 million chicks. The number of ducks etc. decreased from 0.32 million to 0.31 million.
In case of commercial poultry, according to poultry data, its number increased from 1.97 billion to 2.17 billion. This includes 2.06 billion broilers, 83.9 million layers, and 17.44 million breeding stock. While the number of commercial day-old chicks is said to be 2.15 billion. As per poultry data, the total number of poultry birds is 2.26 billion while the total number of day-old chicks is 2.19 billion.
2.6 million tonnes of poultry meat is produced. It includes 2.4 million tonnes of broiler and 137,720 tonnes of domestic chicken meat. The egg production is 26.7 billion including 21.9 billion commercial and 4.8 billion domestic eggs.
Livestock Data 2025 on Production – Milk Data and Meat Data
Milk data and meat data is also given. According to the Pakistan Economic Survey 2024-25, milk production has increased by 3.2 percent from 70.1 billion liters to 72.3 billion liters. In this, cow milk production is 27.10 billion liters, buffalo milk 43.13 billion liters, sheep milk 43 million liters, goat milk 1.1 billion liters, while camel milk production is 981 million liters.
As per milk data, out of the 72.3 billion liters produced, 58.3 billion liters are available for human consumption. Out of this 21.67 billion liters are from cows, 34.50 billion liters are from buffaloes, and the rest are obtained from sheep, goats, and camels. Of the 20 percent of milk that is not available for human consumption, 5 percent is drunk by young animals, while 15 percent is spoiled due to supply chain problems, as per milk data.
Meat data is also given along with milk data. According to the Economic Survey of Pakistan 2024-25 meat data, meat production increased by 2.7 percent from 5.8 million tons to 5.9 million tons. This includes 2.5 million tonnes of beef, 0.83 million tonnes of mutton, and 2.6 million tonnes of poultry. According to poultry data, poultry meat includes 2.4 million tonnes of broiler and 137,720 tonnes of indigenous chicken meat. The number of eggs increased from 25.2 billion to 26.7 billion. This includes 21.9 billion commercial and 4.8 billion indigenous eggs.
Livestock Data 2025 on Livestock Byproducts
In the year 2024-25, 20.7 million large animal hides were obtained, including 10.6 million cows, 9.9 million buffaloes, and 120,000 camels. Small animal skins were 66.7 million, including 12.5 million sheep, 34.4 million goats, 3.7 million lambs, and 16 million goats. The number of fancy skins obtained last year was 19.7 million.
The production of wool was 50,200 tons, hair 33,600 tons, meat offal 489,000 tons, blood 82,500 tons, hooves and horns 73,200 tons, bones 1.1 million tons, fat 345,800 tons, dung 1.6 million tons and hooves 311,900 tons. The number of casings was 67.4 million, while the number of intestines was 22 million.
Initiatives for Livestock Sector Development
Besides poultry data, milk data, meat data, livestock GDP, and overall livestock data, the Pakistan Economic Survey 2024-25 also highlights the federal government initiatives for the development of the livestock sector. According to the Pakistan Economic Survey 2024-25, thanks to improvements in veterinary health services and other measures, the livestock sector is developing. Various projects are also underway at the federal level for the prevention of animal diseases.
The first phase of the Antimicrobial Resistance project under the Fleming Fund Country Grant has been completed, while the second phase is underway. Work is also being done on the ACT project for the implementation of AMR Codex Standards.
According to the Pakistan Economic Survey 2024-25, collaboration with the WOAH and other organizations is also ongoing for the prevention of various diseases in animals. A plan to eradicate PPR is also underway. The National Surveillance System has been reviewed for the Emergency Centre for Transboundary Animal Diseases (ECTAD) Project of FAO. The CWPA of the Planning Commission has approved the project to control FMD and other animal diseases.
Work is underway on collaboration with other countries and registration of exporters and slaughterhouses with the Global Regulatory Authority to increase livestock exports according to the Economic Survey of Pakistan 2024-25. Further work is being done on controlling FMD and other diseases, breed improvement, and inter-provincial coordination. Along with this, the federal government is also working on the National Livestock Breeding Policy, National Poultry Policy, and Livestock Products Export Policy.
