University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Swat – UVAS Swat

University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Swat (UVAS Swat) is the first veterinary university in KPK – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This is a newly established university focusing on veterinary and animal sciences. Veterinary University Swat offers a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine DVM degree and other undergraduate programs. Moreover, the University is also offering DVS (Diploma in Veterinary Sciences).

The University of Veterinary and Animals Sciences Swat was approved on 24th September 2021 under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Universities (Second Amendment) Act No. XXVII of 2021.

The foundation of Swat Veterinary University was laid by the then Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on 26th August 2022 at Ningolai Swat. The Vision behind this university was to create a center of excellence in veterinary and animal sciences that would serve the livestock-rich province and beyond. Prof. Dr. Shakeebullah has been appointed as Vice Chancellor in 2025.

Programs offered by UVAS Swat 

UVAS Swat officially started its academic journey by announcing admissions in 2023 for the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine DVM Degree. The university is also offering BS Biochemistry, BS Microbiology, and BS Medical Lab Technology MLT. Moreover, paravets University offers a Diploma in Veterinary Sciences (DVS).

Plans are underway to further introduce BS programs in Animal Biotechnology, Fisheries & Aquaculture, Meat Sciences & Halal Meat Technology, Veterinary Public Health & Zoonosis, and other subjects. Additionally, M.Phil and PhD programs are being prepared for future launch.

Development Activities and Facilities

The Veterinary University Swat is conducting classes at the Kanju campus in Kanju Township. This campus has classrooms, laboratories, offices, and a developing library. Further infrastructure Development activities are underway. In collaboration with the Livestock & Dairy Development (L&DD) Department, this veterinary university in KPK is also forging practical linkages for student exposure and professional training. Moreover, the faculty hiring process is also underway.
