Like every year, this year too, World Rabies Day is being celebrated on September 28, which is the death anniversary of Louis Pasteur. This scientist, along with his colleagues, developed the first effective rabies vaccine, in memory of which this day was chosen.

This year’s theme is “Rabies. One Health, Zero Deaths”. This theme highlights the importance of One Health by considering the interrelationship of animal and human health and the environment, and the issue of human health as a whole.

In the context of rabies, One Health highlights the aspect that vaccination of dogs as well as humans is very important for the elimination of this disease. At the same time, drawing attention to Zero Deaths “Zero by 30”, it reiterates the commitment that by 2030 we have to eliminate human deaths due to rabies caused by dogs.
