World Animal Day is celebrated all over the world, with October 4 reserved for it. The purpose of celebrating this day is to create awareness for the rights of animals that benefit us in various ways.
Animal Rights Go Beyond Pets
Whenever we talk about the love of animals and their rights, we always think of pets like dogs and cats. On the contrary, we forget the animals which are directly consumed by us or whose products form part of our diet or those animals which become a source of our well-being by being involved in some laborious work. Similarly, zoo dwellers and wild animals are not commonly thought of.
Keeping Animals Is a Responsibility
Dr. Sana Shahzeb said very sweetly that if we think of bringing a cow from a foreign country, then we should first see if we can arrange proper food, housing and environment for it. Not only this, but before making any setup or starting a business related to animals, it is very important to think whether it will be possible for us to take care of them or not. It is better not to adopt an animal than to adopt it as a machine. Before keeping animals, it is important to have the ability to keep animals, this ability includes knowledge, experience, temperament and provision of facilities.
The Forgotten Working Animals
There are a large number of donkeys, horses, and mules in Pakistan which are directly used for transporting goods. A large number of them are also part of the kilns where they play a fundamental and important role in the production of bricks. These are the bricks that hide in the glitter of our bungalows, plazas and shopping malls and we don’t remember them. Similarly, along with the bricks, we also forget the workers and their donkeys, horses, and mules who are performing their daily duties on the burning kilns in the scorching heat. Taking care of their rights is more the responsibility of the kiln owners and related public and private institutions than the poor heirs of these animals.
Protecting Wildlife Habitats
Forests, trees as well as fertile lands are rapidly being converted into housing schemes. Where these fields and trees directly benefit humans, there are also habitats for thousands of animals and birds. In this regard, along with the institutions, we should also think about the extent to which the green land that is being converted into habitat can be avoided. The only solution to control this rapidly spreading disaster is to control the rapidly increasing human greed.
Respect Animals in Zoos and the Wild
While visiting zoos, wildlife parks and hilly areas we should take care not to disturb the animals with any of our activities. Harassing these animals, pelting them with stones, giving them something to eat, etc. is tantamount to violating the rights of animals. In this regard, the instructions of the administration should be followed so that the animals are not harmed. On the other hand, many other species of animals and birds, including the talur, are under threat. It is also important to take necessary measures for their survival and raise awareness among people.
World Animal Day Activities in Pakistan
Like all over the world, World Animal Day is celebrated in Pakistan every year and in this regard, seminars and awareness walks are organized in veterinary educational institutions, zoos and other related institutions. Similar activities were seen this year too, but what stood out was a segment in this regard in the morning show of Pakistan Television.
There is a strong hope that Syed Naeem Abbas will play a key role in the broadcast of this program. Naeem Abbas is a development practitioner and seems to be engaged in various activities regarding the awareness of the rights of animals and especially working animals. This morning show was attended by Naeem Abbas and Dr. Sana Shahzeb along with Animal Rights Activist Aneza Khan.
Inspiring Women in the Veterinary Profession
Dr. Sana is the first lady veterinary doctor of Pakistan who worked side by side with men on a commercial dairy farm. After her, this raiyat has been maintained by Dr. Natasha Ghafoor, who has been performing her duties at Pakistan’s largest commercial dairy farm for the past few years and has the firm intention to continue in the future. Young girls like Dr. Natasha are a beacon for Pakistan’s professional degree holders.
The Role of Media in Promoting Animal Welfare
Jagan Kazim’s voice for the rights of Pets as well as Working Animals is commendable. On the other hand, the top private TV channels of Pakistan should also get out of the ratings race and organize programs about animal rights. Animals cannot give advertisements in return, but they must give prayers.

جانوروں کا عالمی دن دنیا بھر میں منایا جاتا ہے، 4 اکتوبر ا س کے لئے مختص کر رکھا۔ مقصد اس دن کو منانے کا یہ ہے کہ جانورجو ہمیں مختلف طریقوں سے فائدہ پہنچاتے ہیں،ان کے حقوق کے لئے آگاہی پیدا کی جائے۔
جب بھی جانوروں سے پیار اور ان کے حقوق بارے بات کی جاتی ہے تو ہمارے ذہن میں یکسر پالتو جانور جیسے کتے بلی وغیرہ کا خیال آجاتا ہے ۔ اس کے برعکس وہ جانور جو براہِ راست ہم کھاتے ہیں یا جن کی مصنوعات ہماری خوراک کا حصہ بنتی ہیں یا وہ جانور جو کسی محنت مشقت کے کام میں شامل ہو کر ہماری فلاح کا ذریعہ بنتے ہیں ، انہیں ہم بھول جاتے ہیں۔ اسی طرح چڑیا گھر وں کے باسیوں اور جنگلی جانوروں کے بارے بھی عام طور پر نہیں سوچا جاتا۔
ڈاکٹر ثناء شاہ زیب نے بڑی پیاری بات کی کہ اگر ہم کسی بیرون ملک سے گائے لانے کا سوچتے ہیں تو اس سے پہلے ہمیں یہ دیکھ لینا چاہئے کہ کیا ہم اس کے لئے مناسب خوراک، رہائش اور ماحول کا انتظام کر پائیں گے۔ایسا تو نہیں کہ پردیس میں آ کر وہ ذلیل ہوتی رہے گی اور پھر تڑپ تڑپ کر مر جائے گی۔ صرف یہی نہیں بلکہ جانوروں سے متعلقہ کوئی بھی سیٹ اپ بنانے یا کاروبار شروع کرنے سے پہلے اس بات کا سوچنا بہت ضروری ہے کہ ان کی دیکھ بھال ہمارے لئے ممکن ہو سکے گی یا نہیں۔ جانور کو مشین تصور کر تے ہوئے اپنانے سے بہتر ہے کہ نہ اپنایا جائے۔ جانوررکھنے سے پہلے جانور رکھنے کی اہلیت کا ہونابہت ضروری ہے، اس اہلیت میں علم، تجربہ، مزاج اور سہولیات کی فراہمی سب شامل ہیں۔
َ پاکستان میں گدھوں گھوڑوں خچروں کی بڑی تعداد موجود ہے جو براہِ راست مال بردار ی میں استعمال ہوتے ہیں۔ ان کی بہت بڑی تعداد بھٹوں کا بھی حصہ ہے جہاں پر یہ اینٹوں کی تیاری میں بنیادی اور اہم ترین کردار ادا کرتے ہیں۔ یہ وہی اینٹیں ہیں جو ہمارے بنگلوں، پلازوں اور شاپنگ مالوں کو چمک دمک میں چھپ جاتی ہیں اور ہمیں یاد نہیں رہتی۔ اسی طرح اینٹوں کے ساتھ ساتھ ہم ان مزدوروں اور ان کے گدھوں گھوڑوں خچروں کو بھی بھلا دیتے ہیں جوآگ جیسی گرمی میں بھی تپتے بھٹوں پر اپنے روزمرہ کے فرائض سر انجام دے رہے ہوتے ہیں۔ ان کے حقوق کا خیال رکھنا ان جانوروں کے غریب وارثوں سے زیادہ بھٹہ مالکان اور متعلقہ سرکاری اور نجی اداروں کی ذمہ داری ہے۔
جنگلات، درختوں کے ساتھ ساتھ زرخیز زمینوں کو تیزی سے ہاؤزنگ سکیموں میں تبدیل کرتے جا رہے ہیں۔ یہ کھیت اور درخت جہاں براہِ راست انسان کو فائدہ پہنچا تے ہیں وہاں ہزاروں جانوروں اور پرندوں کا مسکن بھی ہوتے ہیں۔اس سلسلے میں اداروں کے ساتھ ساتھ ہمیں بھی سوچنا چاہئے کہ جس سر سبز زمین کو رہائش میں تبدیل کر رہے ہیں ، اس سے کس حد تک بچا جا سکتا ہے۔ اس تیزی سے پھیلتی تباہی کو کنٹرول کرنے کا واحد حل یہی ہے کہ تیزی سے بڑھتے انسانی لالچ کو کنٹرول کیا جائے۔
چڑیا گھر ، والڈ لائف پارکس اور Hilly areas کی سیر کے دوران ہمیں اس بات کا خیال رکھنا چاہئے کہ ہماری کسی سرگرمی سے جانور پریشان نہ ہوں۔ ان جانوروں کو تنگ کرنا، انہیں پتھر مارنا، خود سے کچھ کھانے کو دینا وغیرہ جانوروں کے حقوق پامال کرنے کے مترادف ہے ۔ اس سلسلے میں انتظامیہ کی ہدایات پر عمل کرنا چاہئے تاکہ جانوروں کو کسی قسم کا نقصان نہ پہنچے۔ دوسری جانب تلور سمیت دیگر بہت سے جانوروں اور پرندوں کی نسلوں کو خطرہ ہے ۔ان کی بقا کے لئے ضروری اقدامات اٹھانا اور لوگوں میں شعور اجاگر کرنا بھی ضروری ہے۔
دنیا بھر کی طرح پاکستان میں بھی جانوروں کا عالمی دن ہر سال منایا جاتا ہے اور اس سلسلے میں ویٹرنری تعلیمی اداروں، چڑیا گھروں اور دیگر متعلقہ اداروں میں سیمینارز اور آگاہی واک وغیرہ کا انعقاد کیا جاتا ہے ۔ اس سال بھی اسی طرح کی سرگرمیاں نظر آئیں لیکن ہٹ کر جو چیز دیکھنے کو ملی و ہ پاکستان ٹیلی ویژن کے مارننگ شو میں اس حوالے سے ایک سیگمینٹ تھا۔ قوی امید ہے کہ اس پرگرام کے نشر ہونے میں سید نعیم عباس کا بنیادی کردار ہو گا۔ نعیم عباس ڈیویلپمنٹ پریکٹیشنر ہیں اور جانوروں اور خصوصاََ کام کاج والے جانوروں کے حقوق کی آگاہی بارے مختلف سرگرمیوں میں مصروف نظر آتے ہیں۔اس مارننگ شو میں نعیم عباس اور ڈاکٹر ثناء شاہ زیب کے ساتھ ساتھ اینیمل رائیٹس ایکٹوسٹ انیزہ خاں نے شرکت کی ۔ ڈاکٹر ثناء پاکستان کی وہ پہلی لیڈی ویٹرنری ڈاکٹر ہیں جنہوں نے کمرشل ڈیری فارم پر مرد وں کے شانہ بشانہ کام کیا ۔ ان کے بعد اس رایت کو ڈاکٹر نتاشہ غفور نے برقرار رکھا ہوا ہے جو گزشتہ چند سالوں سے پاکستان کے سب سے بڑے کمرشل ڈیری فارم پر اپنے فرائض سر انجام دے رہی ہیں اور مستقبل میں بھی اسے جاری رکھنے کا پختہ ارادہ رکھتی ہیں۔ پاکستان کی پروفیشنل ڈگری ہالڈز کے لئے ڈاکٹر نتاشہ جیسی نوجوان لڑکیاں مشعلِ راہ ہیں۔
