Use of Doctor with undergraduate degree holders. The Federal Higher Education Commission has warned all universities and institutions, including private ones, including those in the provincial capital, to refrain from using the title of ‘Doctor’ in the nomenclature of undergraduate programs.

In this context, the Higher Education Commission has issued instructions to all universities and higher educational institutions, according to which every university and institute cannot use the title of ‘Doctor’ in the nomenclature of undergraduate programs without seeking approval from the National Curriculum Review Committees.
In a letter written by the Higher Education Commission to the Vice Chancellors, Rectors and Heads of Higher Education Institutions, it was stated that some educational institutions and universities are using the title of Doctor in the nominal culture of undergraduates, which is causing misinformation to students, their parents and employers who are contacting the Higher Education Commission for information.
In this letter, it was urged on these universities to withdraw advertisements in newspapers, social media and websites for all such degree programs as soon as possible and not to admit any students to these programs in future. In this letter, some degree titles such as Doctor of Dietetics and Nutritional Sciences, Doctor of Optometry, etc. are not recognized by the Higher Education Commission. However, Doctor of Physiotherapy, which is a five-year degree program, is recognized provided that the required faculty, infrastructure, lab and attached hospital are available for this program so that students can study there.
The letter further states that the Higher Education Commission expects higher education institutions and universities to ensure implementation of the instructions given regarding the nominal culture of undergraduates for the provision of high quality education. Any such educational program that does not provide accurate information to students, their parents or employers should be avoided. Sources further revealed that currently, several private universities/institutions across Punjab are automatically changing the nominal culture titles of undergraduate programs in connection with admissions so that they can be made attractive and ensure maximum admissions.
