World Heart Day
World Heart Day was celebrated under the auspices of the Physiology Students Club of the Department of Physiology, Islamia University of Bahawalpur. This day is celebrated every year on September 29. Along with an awareness session, a camp on heart medical examination was organized at the university to mark the day. The awareness session was attended by students as well as cardiologists and physiologists from Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Bahawal Victoria Hospital and Quaid-e-Azam Medical College Bahawalpur.
Importance of World Heart Day
Professor Dr. Umar Farooq, Chairman of the Department of Physiology, highlighted the importance of celebrating this day by the World Heart Federation (WHF) and the United Nations.
He also discussed the dangerous challenges in low and middle-income countries due to heart diseases. He also endorsed the goal of WHF and UNO to reduce the global mortality rate by 25%.
Heart Health Awareness
Professor Dr. Sohail Atta, Head of Department, Department of Physiology, Quaid-e-Azam Medical College, explained the physiological aspects of the heart. He reiterated that the best care is very important for the healthy functioning of this organ, which is the first to form in the embryo. Dr. Noman Ali, Consultant Cardiologist, Bahawal Victoria Hospital, explained how our lifestyle can change our daily lives and especially our heart health.
The participants of the session expressed keen interest in the talks of both the guest speakers. The participants also got an opportunity to learn through the question and answer session on this occasion.
The participants and the speakers appreciated the Incharge Students Affairs Dr. Mosaddiq Idrees and Dr. Ayesha Mahmood and Incharge Medical Unit Dr. Haroon Rashid for organizing such a useful session.
Recommendations and Conclusion
The session concluded with a summary and future recommendations presented by Associate Professor Physiology Dr. Zia-ur-Rehman. He reiterated that the digital roadmap proposed by WHF and UNO for the global reduction of the impact of heart diseases is indispensable for Pakistan. It should be noted that the Department of Physiology of Islamia University has been presented with a “Certificate of Support” by the World Heart Federation (WHF) for supporting the campaign.
