The Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Islamia University of Bahawalpur, in collaboration with Dairy Science Park, Secure All Pakistan and Camel Association of Pakistan, organized the sixth two-day international conference and industrial exhibition on the socio-economic importance of camel. The aim of the conference was to enhance the capacity of camel herders and promote the production of various products at the local level from camel milk.

Socio Economic Importance of Camel

Camels really help people in dry areas. In Pakistan they give income and food especially in places like Thar and Cholistan. It seems like they are key for many families there.

Products and Socio Economic Importance of Camel

They produce milk that has lots of good stuff in it and some communities rely on it. Meat from camels also helps with nutrition and people sell it too. That part is kind of important for daily needs. Besides that camels carry things across rough land where cars cannot go easily. They get used in races and events which brings in some money and keeps traditions going.

Hair from them makes blankets and ropes while hides turn into leather items. Camels handle hot dry weather pretty well. They go without water for a long time and eat stuff other animals would not. This makes them useful when conditions change.

There are jobs in breeding and processing their products. Maybe more could be done with that but it is not clear yet.
