Unfortunately, the livestock sector in our country has not been able to adapt to modern requirements, while livestock and agriculture are important sectors, which can be economically stabilized by paying full attention to them. These views were expressed by Provincial Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Engineer Abdul Bari Khan Pitafi at a seminar held at a local hotel in Hyderabad. The seminar was organized by the Animal Husbandry Department on preventing the slaughter of newborn cattle and increasing the production of cattle meat. The seminar was informed about the project regarding saving calves and their care.
The provincial minister said that increasing meat production is necessary to promote the country’s economy. A three-year plan has been prepared to save cattle calves, on which the Animal Husbandry Department will work in 12 districts of Sindh in the first phase with the cooperation of the Sindh government. He said that people all over the world save their cows and other livestock and for this they avoid slaughtering calves of cattle, which increases the number of these cattle and keeps the female cattle safe.
This not only increases their breed but also brings great economic benefits to the country. He said that if we want to export meat, then policies will also have to be made. He said that the federation did not give us funds and did not include us in the scheme, so we were left behind. He said that after the previous federal government ignored us, we made our own schemes, while the livestock suffered great damage due to the flood.
The provincial minister said that we have decided to hold awareness seminars in all districts. Those farmers who will protect the calves by implementing the scheme will not only be provided with money so that they can take care of them. He said that I will try to get the scheme revised, while the relevant laws have to be taken into account while making policies.
He said that dairy farms slaughter calves and make excuses for milk, while buffaloes are given so many injections that they are not able to reproduce. Therefore, we decided to give them money and save the calves by reproducing them. He said that prices are determined keeping in mind the costs. Since everything is expensive in Pakistan, milk prices have also increased.
On this occasion, Director Animal Husbandry Sindh Hyderabad Hizbullah Bhutto said that effective measures need to be taken to breed and save rare animals, which includes providing a clean and healthy environment to the animals. If any cattle gets sick, it should be kept separate from healthy animals. He said that animals should be given kesh immediately after birth because this builds immunity in the animals, while if the animal food is dried for some time and fed to the calves, they will also prove to be healthy.
He informed about the protection of quarantined cattle, providing them with food and providing treatment facilities to the calves. He advised the cattle owners to ensure the breeding of their rare breed calves instead of slaughtering them so that more income can be earned by protecting the cattle. He said that the complaint cell of the institution can be contacted for the resolution of any kind of complaint.
