According to diplomatic sources, the Foreign Office has officially issued a permit to send 150 falcons to the United Arab Emirates. These falcons will be sent from Karachi to the United Arab Emirates for Dubai ruler Sheikh Rashid Al Maktoum.
There is a complete ban on hunting rare and guest birds in Pakistan, while Prime Minister Imran Khan himself has banned hunting falcons in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, but despite this, 150 falcons are being sent to the United Arab Emirates.
Every year, with the arrival of winter from Siberia, valuable and rare guest birds arrive in Pakistan, whose habitat is the coastal belt and desert area of Sindh. With the arrival of guest birds, the rulers of Arab countries come to Pakistan specifically for bird hunting.
A favorite pastime of the princes of Arab countries is also hunting the rare bird found in Pakistan, the catfish, which the government has banned, however, licenses are issued to Arab guests.
Pressure from wildlife conservationists and NGOs to impose a complete ban on hunting rare birds forced the government to tighten the hunting ban, and in 2015, the Supreme Court also upheld the ban on hunting of the catfish.
