Highlights and Recommendations
The conference highlighted that Pakistan is the world’s fourth largest milk producer, with annual production of 72 billion liters. However, low per-animal productivity, high milk losses, weak value chains, limited processing facilities, and a lack of diversified products have reduced Pakistan’s competitiveness in regional and global markets. Experts emphasized that global dairy trade is expanding rapidly and Pakistan has strong potential to benefit from it.

Participants agreed that modern technologies, high milk-yielding breeds, improved feed and climate-smart animal management, milk storage and chilling facilities, and the production of value-added products such as cheese and butter can significantly improve dairy sector productivity. It was also acknowledged that most livestock farmers operate on a small scale, making corporate sector involvement essential to deliver modern services and infrastructure. Speakers noted that private sector investment can provide dairy farmers with better technology, market access, and fair prices.
Conclusion of National Dairy Conference
At the conclusion of the conference, participants expressed commitment to deregulating the dairy market, introducing policy reforms, and strengthening public–private cooperation. The conference recommendations will be compiled into a comprehensive policy paper and presented to the Prime Minister and Chief Ministers to make Pakistan’s dairy sector export-oriented and globally competitive.
