Methane Emission from Livestock

Although industry and modern energy consumption activities are the primary sources of methane emission and other greenhouse gases, livestock is also the source. Cow, buffalo, and other ruminants naturally emit methane. During ruminal activities, ruminants release methane during belching and defecation. This livestock methane emission also contributes to global warming. That is why, experts consider Methane Emission from Livestock under climate change. They recommend methane reduction in cattle.

How to reduce Livestock Methane emissions?

Although livestock methane emission is a natural process, we should manage it. Livestock farming is part of agricultural activity and it plays an important role in the conventional agricultural cycle. Farmers use livestock dung as a natural fertilizer for a recycling. So we should encourage the recycling of livestock dung. Biogas production from livestock dung will reduce methane emissions from livestock. Besides this, it will also generate energy. This it effective way for cow methane reduction.

Biogas for Clean Air

Experts recommend focusing on the feeding of livestock. Balanced livestock nutrition will help reduce cow methane emission. More digestible feed will also help the methane reduction in cattle. Besides this, different feed additives are also used to reduce methane emissions.

Livestock and Enteric Emission

Besides livestock nutrition, efficient production of animals is also recommended.

UVAS experts briefed the delegation about its initiative. University is working on balanced nutrition. University is also focusing on the improvement of animal production. These initiatives will be helpful for cow methane reduction.
