Meat Exporters delegation called on Governor Punjab to submit the issues of meat industry. delegation of All Pakistan Meat Exporters and Processors Association met with Governor Punjab Muhammad Balighur-ur-Rehman and drew attention to the problems faced by the meat industry. The delegation was led by the chairman of the association, Naseeb Ahmed Saifi. The delegation included President Mian Abdul Hanan, General Secretary Syed Hassan Raza, Haji Muhammad Nawaz Dogar and Rana Qayyum.

The delegation demanded that the meat export sector in Pakistan be given the status of an industry and be zero-rated so that Pakistan’s meat exporters and processors can compete in the international market. Attention was also drawn to targeting more new markets. The delegation said that this is a sector that does not have an import bill. It can be strengthened and supported by the economy.

The delegation further said that to increase meat exports, the problems related to this sector have to be resolved. Quarantine arrangements at ports have to be improved as well as manpower has to be provided. The meeting also demanded a ban on the alleged smuggling of livestock and a ban on the slaughter of female animals.
The delegation said that focus should be on small farmers and steps should be taken to increase livestock production. Timely vaccination of animals and breeding projects should be worked on. It is very important for the people to have healthy animals to provide healthy meat and for this, the provincial livestock departments will have to work in a real sense.
The delegation said that modern slaughterhouses and processing plants should also be allowed to provide meat at the local level. Tax issues related to the meat processing sector should be resolved and subsidies should be provided. On this occasion, discussions were also held regarding electricity rates for the meat industry and the State Bank’s benchmark price for meat exports.
The Governor of Punjab listened to all the problems of the delegation and assured them of their resolution, while issuing instructions to write letters to the relevant institutions.
