A consultative meeting of stakeholders and Livestock Emergency Sub-Group was held at the Veterinary University to review the development of the livestock sector and prepare a concrete plan for the future. Lahore (Press Release) A consultative meeting of stakeholders and Livestock Emergency Sub-Group was held at the City Campus Lahore at the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore, to prepare a concrete plan for the improvement of the livestock sector and to review the development of the livestock sector under the 100-day agenda of the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
The meeting was jointly chaired by former Secretary Livestock and Dairy Development Department Punjab Naseem Sadiq and Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha, while the Federal Government, Livestock and Dairy Development Department A large number of stakeholders, researchers, professionals and teachers from public and private sectors across Pakistan, including representatives of the Development Department Punjab, Pakistan Dairy Association, Buffalo Breeder Association Punjab, Sahiwal Cattle Breeders Society, Corporate Dairy Farmers Association, Punjab Breeding Authority, Dairy and Cattle Farmers Association, Meat Export Association of Pakistan, Pakistan Tannery Association and Pakistan Poultry Association, attended the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, Naseem Sadiq said that there is a dire need to increase fodder production to make the livestock sector active in Pakistan and in the future the livestock industry will be one of the major industries of Pakistan. He suggested conducting a census of livestock in all four provinces of Pakistan and said that in the past years, due to the joint efforts of the Livestock Department and the Veterinary University, there has been a significant reduction in the incidence of fatal diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease, foot-and-mouth disease and ringworm in livestock and the sector has also progressed.
Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha said that the federal government is working seriously to make the livestock sector active. He further said that the aim of the meeting was to bring together stakeholders, farmers, service providers, meat exporters, poultry and dairy industry owners from all over Pakistan where they will discuss the challenges and issues in the development of the sector and present their suggestions for the improvement of the sector through which a solid national livestock policy will be formulated for the future. He also suggested starting a school-to-country program.
The meeting discussed in detail various issues related to low productivity of the livestock sector, substandard milk and milk products, substandard meat and low demand for all these items that can make the sector active. In the meeting, experts/stakeholders presented their own expert opinions/suggestions for the development of the sector, including stopping the import of dry milk and whey powder, implementing the law of minimum milk pasteurization and spreading awareness about quality food to the consumer through electronic media, reducing the cost of milk production and feed costs, guiding farmers, increasing the breeding stock of local breed cows/buffaloes, and using agricultural machinery to increase the production of fodder.
The proposals include providing subsidies on milk, appointing an Animal Husbandry Commissioner, de-capping the price of meat, abolishing taxes imposed on the industry and exports, establishing bread associations at the Union Council level, establishing quality milk standards and taking strict legal action against adulterators, educating livestock farmers through electronic media about the welfare and reproduction of livestock, and spreading awareness among consumers about quality and healthy food, as well as making farmer-friendly policies.

اُ س مو قع پر خطاب کرتے ہو ئے نسیم صا دق نے کہا کہ پا کستان میں لا ئیو سٹاک سیکٹر کو فعال بنا نے کے لیئے چارے کی پیدا وار کو بڑ ھا نے کی اشد ضرورت ہے اور مستقبل میں لا ئیو سٹاک انڈ سٹر ی کا شمار پاکستان کی بڑ ی انڈ سٹر یو ں میں ہو گا۔اُ نہو ں نے پا کستان کے چا رو ں صو بو ں میں مویشیو ں کی مردم شما ری کر وانے کے بارے میں تجویز دی نیز کہا کہ گذشتہ سا لو ں میں محکمہ لا ئیو سٹا ک اور ویٹرنری یونیورسٹی کی مشتر کہ کا وشو ں کی بدو لت مویشیو ں میں پا ئی جا نے والی مہلک بیما ریاں منہ کھر، گل گھو ٹو اور کا ٹا میں وا ضع کمی آئی ہے اور سیکٹر کو بھی تر قی ملی ہے۔
وا ئس چانسلرپروفیسر ڈاکٹر طلعت نصیر پاشا نے کہا کہ فیڈر ل گورنمنٹ لا ئیو سٹا ک سیکٹر کو فعال بنا نے کے لیئے سنجید گی سے کام کر رہی ہے ۔ اُنہو ں نے مزید کہا کہ اجلاس کا مقصد پاکستان بھر سے سٹیک ہولڈر ز ،فارمرز، سروس پرو وا ئڈر،میٹ ایکسپو ر ٹر ،پو لٹر ی اور ڈیری انڈ سٹر ی کے مالکا ن کو اکھٹا کر نا تھا جہا ں وہ سیکٹر کی تر قی میں حا ئل ر کا وٹو ں اور مسا ئل کو زیر بحث لا کر سیکٹر کی بہتر ی کے حوا لے سے اپنی اپنی تجا ویزیں پیش کر یں گے جس کے زریعے مستقبل کے لیئے ایک ٹھو س نیشنل لا ئیو سٹا پا لیسی مر تب کی جا ئے گی نیز اُنہو ں نے سکول ملک پرو گرام شروع کر وا نے کی تجویز بھی دی۔
