The Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore, in collaboration with the Fisheries Department, Punjab, has successfully bred Pangasius fish at the Sindhwan Fish Hatchery near Head Block, Kasur. This is the second major breakthrough in the history of Pakistan’s aquaculture industry after the fish breeding technology of carp fish and the sex reversal technology of tilapia.

Dean Faculty of Fisheries and Wildlife, Veterinary University, Professor Dr. Noor Khan said that with the collaboration of the Fisheries Department, Punjab, the staff and postgraduate students are fully trained in the management, rearing and breeding of Pangasius fish culture. The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore and the Fisheries Department, Punjab are keen to increase the production, per capita consumption of Pangasius fish and export products made from this fish meat to the international market like Asian countries. This achievement was achieved while working on two research projects funded by the Higher Education Commission and the Punjab Agricultural Research Board.
