Green Dairy Initiative (GDI): A Movement to Modernize Dairy Farming in Pakistan

The Green Dairy Initiative (GDI) was established with the objective of promoting the modern development of small and commercial dairy farmers in Pakistan. The organization aims to introduce practical innovation into traditional dairy farming and bring long-term stability to commercial dairy operations. It is not merely a commercial enterprise, but a movement focused on transforming local dairy farmers through modern scientific approaches and ensuring sustainable growth in Pakistan’s dairy sector. These views were expressed by Dr. Asim Khan, Chief Executive Officer of Green Dairy Initiative (GDI), during a special conversation.

Vision for Genetic Improvement and Sectoral Growth

With this mission, GDI was established to contribute at the national level toward improving the genetic potential of livestock and supporting the overall development of Pakistan’s livestock sector.

He highlighted that one of the biggest challenges faced by local farmers is low milk production per animal. To address this issue, GDI is promoting modern breeding techniques and ensuring the availability of high-quality products. The aim is to introduce animals that produce more milk, maintain better health, and deliver improved economic returns for farmers.

GDI Providing Sexed Semen and Breeding Services

Products and Services by Green Dairy Initiative

According to Dr. Asim Khan, the only sustainable path to increasing milk production and enhancing dairy farmers’ income in Pakistan is through improved genetics, scientific breeding plans, and balanced nutrition. Based on this philosophy, Green Dairy Initiative is providing modern breeding solutions, comprehensive nutrition plans, and scientifically developed farm management programs to commercial dairy farmers across the country.

He explained that GDI’s primary focus is dairy breeding. The company is offering sexed semen from high TPI and high Net Merit American Holstein Friesian bulls. In addition, conventional and sexed semen of other livestock breeds are also available. The organization provides reproduction-related services, including ultrasound-based reproductive monitoring, technical consultation on breeding plans, and embryo transfer programs.

Dr. Asim Khan further emphasized that timely pregnancy diagnosis, proper monitoring of reproductive cycles, and breeding at the most suitable time can significantly improve conception rates. This approach helps reduce open days and enhances the overall productivity of dairy animals.

Nutrition, Hygiene, and Modern Farm Solutions

Dr. Asim Khan shared that GDI is also introducing international-standard nutritional products for dairy farmers. These include high-quality nutritional supplements and feed additives designed to improve animal health and milk production.

The product range also includes essential hygiene materials and chemicals required to maintain high biosecurity and cleanliness standards on dairy farms. Furthermore, GDI is supplying modern dairy farm management machinery and advanced equipment to improve operational efficiency.

Farmer Guidance and Training by Green Dairy Initiative

Dr. Asim Khan stressed that genuine progress in the livestock sector depends on proper farmer guidance. He stated that GDI prioritizes awareness, education, and technical support alongside the supply of quality products and services. The organization is actively working to guide farmers toward innovation, efficiency, and long-term stability in dairy farming.

A Message to Dairy Farmers by Green Dairy Intiative

In his concluding message, Dr. Asim Khan invited dairy farmers across Pakistan to register with Green Dairy Initiative and become part of this national mission. He emphasized that collective efforts are essential to strengthen the dairy sector and achieve sustainable progress.
