CM Maryam Nawaz chaired meeting on Livestock

Secretary Livestock briefed about the Livestock Department in a CM Meeting on Livestock Development. Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz chaired this livestock meeting. Besides Minister for Agriculture Ashiq Hussain Karmani, Parvez Rasheed, Information Minister Uzma Bukhari, and Sania Ashiq also joined. On the other hand, Chief Secretary, Chairman P&D, Secretary Finance, and other officers were also present in this livestock meeting.

During the CM Meeting on Livestock Development, it was informed that livestock accounts for 14.36% of GDP. In the country, Punjab produces 62% of milk, 43% of meat, 33% of mutton and 65% of poultry meat. Secretary Livestock further briefed that China imports meat worth 17 billion dollars and milk worth 2 billion dollars. Moreover, experts said that 15 to 25 percent of production can be increased with bread improvement. They highlighted the importance of disease control for livestock development.

CM Meeting on Livestock Development

The Chief Minister gave a target to increase the export of buffalo meat and milk to China. Further, Chief Minister Punjab issued instructions to pay special attention to research and development for livestock development.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that more work needs to be done for bread improvement. She also emphasized disease prevention and vaccination. She directed to increase the local production of FMD Vaccine. Moreover, she emphasized strengthening the FMD control program.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said that Department should create new mechanism to increase the export of dairy products. Chief Minister also directed to create disease control compartments and formulate a policy to export buffalo milk and meat to China. Besides this, she directed to prepare a report on poultry export.
