Punjab to Export 1 Million Animals, highlighted in CM Meeting on Livestock

Important decisions were taken in a special video link meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for the development of the livestock sector and an increase in meat exports. It was decided in this CM meeting on livestock that Punjab will export the meat of one million animals in a phased manner. The Chief Minister also directed to double the quota of free cattle to rural women. MOUs have been signed with meat exporters.

To achieve this target, 300,000 cows and buffaloes, 300,000 rams, and 100,000 goats and sheep will be fattened and prepared for meat exports. Steps will also be taken by meat companies to process and export 300,000 cattle meat. Moreover, China’s leading global meat company will establish a boiler unit in Punjab in collaboration with PAMCO, through which boiled meat will be produced on a large scale and exported to the global market.

MOUs with Meat Exporters

Earlier, MOUs have been signed with the private sector to promote meat production and exports. Partnerships were established with six leading meat exporter companies, Tazij Meat, Syed Traders, Abadin International, Khan Dairy, Go Foods and PAMCO. Provincial Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani said that the partnership between meat exporters and the livestock department will lead to growth of the livestock sector and increase in valuable foreign exchange. There there will be a significant improvement in value addition and meat exports.

Key Initiatives Highlighted in CM Meeting on Livestock

During the briefing, measures such as mechanization of livestock farming, up to 60 percent subsidy on modern machinery, tagging of 2 million animals, and provision of 2 million semen to improve inbreeding were also informed. It was further informed that state-of-the-art veterinary hospitals will be established in every tehsil, while mobile veterinary dispensaries will go from village to village to provide treatment.

It was also informed in the briefing that HS and Lumpy Skin Disease have not been reported in Punjab since 2022 and locally produced vaccines are available at a very low price.

The Punjab Chief Minister said on this occasion that an important sector like livestock was neglected in the past, however, the current government is committed to developing this sector on modern lines, ensuring the economic independence of farmers and giving Pakistan a prominent position in the global meat market.
