Cholistan and Cholistan Veterinary University

To explore the potential of Cholistan, funds should be allocated directly for the livestock farmers of Cholistan. Cholistan University will no fulfil the requirement. There are already two Universities in South Punjab which are offering degrees and courses in Veterinary Sciences. After this University, there will be no change in Cholistan, only few professors and PhD degree holders will get benefit. A column of Dr. Jassar Aftab

Veterinary Education and Its Mandate

By the way, Islamic studies can also be linked to Veterinary and Animal Sciences and then a degree can also be started in this subject, in a veterinary educational institution, giving the justification that there is a huge halal market in the world and Pakistan’s share in it is negligible. Since the halal market is closely related to the livestock sector, Islamic studies experts who have been educated and trained in veterinary educational institutions will play an important role in the halal sector.

Yes, if we put the University Act and the law aside and think using human reason, then understanding the definition of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, its mandate and related degrees is not rocket science. But if we delve into the explanations and documents, then anything can be made right and then doctors of human food and nutrition can also be produced in the animal university. Similarly, degrees in computer sciences and pharmacy can be issued from the agricultural university, and degrees in English and Pakistan studies can be issued from the engineering university.

Why Create a New University?

If this new university were to offer degrees in subjects like microbiology, food science and technology, and zoology, then there are already institutions in South Punjab where these subjects are being taught. If there was a shortage of them or no degrees were available, then the existing institutions could have been taken advantage of; what was the need to create a new university for this?

If it is believed that the number of degrees related to the veterinary department cannot be started in such a way that the university can run and other subjects have to be linked for support. Then don’t create a university; degrees related to the veterinary department can also be taught in general universities and this is happening.

Who Benefits from a New University?

Yes, there is definitely benefit from a new university. Only those politicians who have cut the ribbon and installed their plaques, or those professors who are eager for high administrative positions, or a few dozen veterinary professionals and researchers who get the opportunity to become part of an educational institution as lecturers, assistant professors or associate professors, or to some extent those faculty members who have fallen behind in the race for progress due to dirty politics, nepotism or decisions against merit in a higher educational institution, and they get a chance to get rid of it with the establishment of a new institution.

As for the innocent children of the forced and oppressed people, they have to get a degree for a job, whether it is from the stamp of a university or from the stamp of a college faculty under a university.

The Name of Cholistan

In our country, the feeling of deprivation and backwardness is also a big asset and this asset is for those people who benefit from it from time to time and that is why this asset is maintained. Like the feeling of deprivation of South Punjab, the feeling of deprivation of backward small districts, etc. There is also a Cholistan in it, in whose name some group has been getting money in every era.

Now the university that is being mentioned also has the word Cholistan in it.

Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences.

Will It Benefit Cholistan?

It is with great regret that the establishment of this university will neither benefit the people of Cholistan, nor will it have any impact on livestock.

Yes, there will definitely be a feast for those few people who will make projects in the name of Cholistan and livestock, get funding, make their offices and laboratories beautiful, organize international conferences and strengthen their CVs and move towards high positions. They will develop themselves, but this poor Cholistan and its livestock will remain the same.

Just like where did people come from in the name of Nili Ravi buffalo and Sahiwal cow and these poor breeds.. are in front of everyone.

Existing Institutions Need Attention

It is a request that among the existing veterinary educational institutions, there is hardly any such institution that meets the standards of the Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council. Instead of solving the problems of these institutions, a new university has been created.

Being a new institution, its problems will also come to the fore and its graduates will be seen carrying banners and pushing on the streets and in the courts in the future.

Focus on Cholistan’s Real Problems

If anyone in Pakistan cares so much about Cholistan and livestock, then instead of using its name, they should focus on its real problems.

If the money you have invested in establishing this university had been spent on running mobile veterinary dispensaries in Cholistan, increasing the staff of the livestock department, solving water problems and improving veterinary services by providing medicines and other essential items, and then steps had been taken to maintain the continuity of funding for this, then Cholistan would have actually developed.

Constructing institutions, squares, and buildings in his name will not benefit Cholistan and its livestock.
