Monitoring Network Endangered Siberian tigers and Leopards
China launched a monitoring system to track and manage the natural habitat of endangered Siberian tigers and Amur leopards living in the country’s northeastern regions.

China is working hard to protect Siberian Tigers and Amur Leopards that live in countries. After trying for 20 years China set up a big system to watch over these animals in Jilin and Heilongjiang provinces. This system covers than 12,000 square kilometres of land.
China used technology like artificial intelligence and special cameras to take pictures of Siberian Tigers and Amur Leopards. They took than 4,000 pictures of Siberian Tigers and 600 pictures of Amur Leopards.
Jiang Guangshun, who works at the Feline Research Centre of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration said that China and Russia worked together and found out that 17 Siberian Tigers and 42 Amur Leopards live in both countries.
People think that the forests where Siberian Tigers and Amur Leopards live are getting better because of Chinas Natural Forest Protection Project. This project started in 1998. China also stopped cutting down trees for money, which helped the forests and the animals. There are still problems.
Things like roads, farms and fences are making it hard for Siberian Tigers and Amur Leopards to move around. This can make the animals sick and weak.
Researchers think that we need to make special paths for the animals to move around and work with countries to save Siberian Tigers and Amur Leopards. They talked about these problems at a meeting in Harbin. Than 300 experts, from 19 countries came to the meeting. They said that we need to protect Siberian Tigers and Amur Leopards to keep the air and water clean.
They want countries to work together to help these animals. Siberian Tigers and Amur Leopards are very important. We need to save them.
