Animal Prices on Eid Increased, Less number of Animals Sacrificed — Livestock Department Remained Active

600,000 to 100,000 fewer number of Qurbani animals were sacrificed, while a trend of increase in animal prices on Eid was also observed. On the other hand, according to the Livestock Department Punjab, no case of lumpy skin was reported in Punjab due to effective measures. A total of 69,77,000 animals were sacrificed, including 30,000 cows, 34,000 goats, 40,000 sheep, and 100,000 camels on Eid ul Adha according to Pakistan Tanneries Association.

Animal Prices on Eid

According to the Pakistan Tanneries Association, a trend of increase in animal prices on eid was observed this year. Less number of Qurbani animals were sacrificed which was due to inflation and reduced purchasing power. The total value of sacrificial animals was estimated to be less than Rs 500 billion, while the value of hides was estimated at Rs 6.35 billion. The average price of a cow decreased by Rs 25,000 to 150,000, while the price of a goat increased by Rs 10,000 to 50,000. The price of a camel was also seen to increase.

Activities of the Livestock Department Punjab

On the other hand, effective preventive measures by the Livestock and Dairy Development Department, Punjab resulted in no case of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) being reported across the province. According to the information released by the Livestock Department, 20 inter-provincial and 146 inter-district check posts were established to prevent the disease۔ آnimals were sprayed with tick repellent۔ ظeterinary camps and Mobile veterinary dispensaries were provided to animals at 96 livestock markets and 161 sales centers.

A total of 29,247 animals were sprayed, 1,285 animals were treated and 44 emergency calls were responded to promptly during the three days of Eid. Along with this, 3,321 butchers were also given special training on technical skinning and preservation.

The Livestock Department’s helpline 080009211 also remained active in case of further veterinary emergencies.
