UVAS observed the World Fisheries Day 2024
The Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture of UVAS celebrated World Fisheries Day 2024 at Ravi Campus, Pattoki. Group discussions, World Fisheries Day walk, fishing competitions, business ideas, fish cooking competitions, and other competitions were also organized on the occasion. Faculty members of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore also joined the activities.

Speaking on the occasion, the Dean of Faculty of Animal Production and Technology Prof Dr. Saima said that the fisheries sector plays an important role in Pakistan’s economy and exports. Fish meat is an excellent source of nutrition. She also appreciated the efforts of the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture for playing a key role in the promotion of fisheries in the country.
World Fisheries Day History & Fisheries in Pakistan; Sustainable Fishing
Chairman Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture Dr. Muhammad Hafeez-ur-Rehman highlighted various aspects related to the significant role of fisheries in food security and unemployment alleviation. He also stressed the promotion of investment to make the fisheries sector active.
Professor Dr. Arshad Javed congratulated the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture for promoting fisheries-related education and research and celebrating World Fisheries Day every year in a grand manner. He said that the purpose of celebrating Fisheries Day is to discuss the challenges faced by the fisheries sector and the problems of small farmers.
Earlier, a World Fisheries Day walk was organized which was led by Dr. Arshad Javed along with Dr. Hafeez. Meanwhile, a group discussion was also held between students and faculty members, in which issues related to challenges and opportunities facing the fisheries sector, climate change, and modern technology were discussed.
