Registration for the Third International Yak Conference 2024 is continued

The third International Yak Conference 2024 will be held in Skardu from November 20 to 21, 2024. This Conference on yak will be organized by the Department of Biological Sciences of the Virtual University of Pakistan and the Department of Zoology of the University of Baltistan, Skardu.

The focal person of the conference, Dr. Tanveer Hussain, says that Yak is very important in the northern hilly areas. These animals are the lifeline of the cold mountain regions. At the local level, this animal is very important in transportation. Further, it is used for milk and meat production. On the other hand, this animal also has cultural importance due to its attractiveness and interesting beautiful colors.

He said that the Department of Livestock, Dairy Development and Poultry Production Gilgit-Baltistan, the International Center for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), and Yak and Camel Foundation (YCF) Germany are also collaborating for the Conference. The purpose of organizing this conference on yak is to promote research on this animal. Furthermore, the conference will provide an opportunity to highlight community issues related to yaks.

Details of the International Yak Conference 2024

He further said that abstracts are being submitted for the conference while its registration is also in progress. In the conference, experts will discuss the types of yak, nutrition, production, management, and other aspects. Further, the economic and social importance of this animal will also be highlighted. Experts and researchers as well as important government and administrative figures will also participate in the International Yak Conference. More yak farmers will also be invited.

Dr. Ghulam Raza, focal person of the conference, says that it is an honor for us to host this third International Yak Conference. Students from outside Gilgit-Baltistan will be given a special package including free accommodation and free registration in Skardu for which limited seats are available. Further conference attendees will also have the opportunity to meet yak farmers. On the occasion of the conference, poster, model, and drawing competitions will also be organized among the students of schools and colleges. A scientific poster competition will be held among more researchers.
