Government Likely to Lift Ban on Live Animal Exports – Livestock Export

Serious consideration is being given to lifting the ban on live animal exports. This step will lift the live sheep export ban and ban on other livestock export. In this regard, the Executive Committee of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) has agreed. Further, as reported by Dawn, a summary has also been prepared by the Ministry of National Food Security and Research. With the approval of the federal cabinet, the decision to ban the export of livestock will be withdrawn. The government wants to facilitate Live animal export trade۔

Livestock Export and Investment in Livestock

According to a Dawn report, the matter was taken up by the SIFC’s executive committee and it was agreed to lift the ban on live animal exports. Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates have expressed keen interest in investing in feedlot fattening in Pakistan. Further efforts are being made to increase investment through the platform of SIFC.

It is expected from the government circles that domestic and foreign investment in livestock farming will increase the livestock. Along with this, the situation of demand and supply of livestock has improved due to the control of smuggling and border fencing. This is encouraging to life the live sheep export ban and ban on other livestock export.

It should be noted that in 2009, the Economic Coordination Committee allowed the export of livestock, but the live animal export trade was banned in 2013 due to the lack of livestock at the local level due to the increase in smuggling.

Demand of Meat Exporters on Live Animal Export Trade

On the other hand, the Chairman of the All Pakistan Meat Exporters and Processors Association Naseeb Ahmed Saifi has demanded to maintain live animal exports ban. Along with this, he has also demanded to control livestock smuggling.

Chairman Association Naseeb Ahmed Safi says that the export of halal meat should be increased after meeting the local needs of Pakistan. Our focus should be on exporting value-added livestock products and especially value-added meat products rather than live animals.
