International Homeless Animals Day is celebrated annually on the third Saturday in August. The International Society for Animal Rights (ISAR) introduced this day to raise awareness about homeless animals. This day also highlights the importance of neutering and spaying stray animals. Moreover, this also focuses on adoption and legislation for homeless animals. Besides this, it also aims to educate people about pet abandonment and feral animals.
History of International Homeless Animals Day
This day started in 1992 by the International Society for Animal Rights (ISAR). This day raises awareness about the overpopulation of cats and dogs across the world. ISAR is working to control the stray animal population through neutering and spaying of cats and dogs. Because of this day, many animal protection organizations, veterinary professionals, and others have come together to protect these homeless animals. As a result, many homeless animals have found permanent homes in animal shelters.

What is Neutering and Spaying?
Neutering and spaying are the only ways to control the population of cats and dogs. Neutering is the removal of the testes in a male animal while spaying is the removal of the ovaries or the uterus of a female animal. Due to this procedure, cats and dogs became unable to reproduce.

TNVR project launched in November 2020 in Pakistan. TNVR (trap-neuter-vaccinate-return) program launched to control stray dog and cat population. The purpose of this project was also to control rabies cases.
