AMR Lab Inaugurated in Lahore
AMR Lab inaugurated at Provincial Diagnostic Lab of Livestock Department Punjab. Secretary Livestock Punjab Masood Anwar inaugurated a modern Antimicrobial Resistance lab at the Provincial Diagnostic Laboratory Lahore.

On this occasion, a workshop was also organized on Antimicrobial Resistance in which the participants were made aware of the use of antibiotics in animals and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). Director General Research Dr. Sajjad Hussain briefed the participants about the aims and objectives of the workshop and told them that Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) is an emerging challenge that needs to be tackled.

Importance of AMR
The Secretary Livestock said that awareness about Antimicrobial Resistance can improve the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. The aim of timely diagnosis and correct treatment is the prosperity of livestock. The Secretary Livestock said that serious steps are needed to prevent unnecessary use of antibiotics and obtain accurate data. He further said that the launch of the Antimicrobial Resistance Lab is a significant step towards the One Health Vision and the establishment of a modern lab will prove to be effective in reducing antimicrobial resistance, improving diagnosis and reducing the cost of treatment.
Fleming Fund Efforts
Secretary Livestock Masood Anwar said that the efforts of the Fleming Fund on antimicrobial resistance are commendable. He further said that an awareness campaign is needed among livestock farmers to prevent the inappropriate use of antibiotics. There is a need to formulate a communication strategy by understanding the aims and objectives of the Antimicrobial Resistance Lab. Awareness about antimicrobial resistance will be helpful in saving poor livestock farmers from economic crisis.
Addressing the ceremony, the Head of Fleming Fund Pakistan, Dr. Qadeer Ahsan said that this fund is working in 24 countries. The establishment of this laboratory will help in working on antimicrobial resistance. The ceremony was also attended by Additional Secretaries, Director General Research, Director ADDRS, representatives of the Poultry Association and health experts.
